Romans 2:28–3:18 § 83

Brethren, he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is true circumcision [something which] is outward and in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and [true] circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, and not in the letter. His praise is not from men but from God... What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God. For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That Thou mayest be justified in Thy sayings, and mightest overcome when Thou art judged.” But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict wrath upon us? (I speak as a man.) Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world? For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? And why not say, “Let us do evil that good may come?”—as some slanderously report and affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just. What then? Are we better than they? No, not at all. For I have already charged that all men, both Jews and Gentiles, are under [the power of] sin. As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none that understands; there is none that seeks after God. They are all gone out of the way; they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips; whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace have they not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Matthew 6.31-34, 7.9-11 § 19

Chapter 6

31

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

μὴ οὖν μεριμνήσητε λέγοντες, τί φάγωμεν ἢ τί πίωμεν ἢ τί περιβαλώμεθα;

[Заⷱ҇ 19] Не пецы́тесѧ ᲂу҆́бѡ, глаго́люще: что̀ ꙗ҆́мы, и҆лѝ что̀ пїе́мъ, и҆лѝ чи́мъ ѡ҆де́ждемсѧ;

32

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Our Father which art in heaven - The Lord's Prayer, narrated by Elli Lampeti

Chapter 7

9

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

ἢ τίς ἐστιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος, ὃν ἐὰν αἰτήσῃ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἄρτον, μὴ λίθον ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;

И҆лѝ кто̀ є҆́сть ѿ ва́съ человѣ́къ, є҆го́же а҆́ще воспро́ситъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀ хлѣ́ба, є҆да̀ ка́мень пода́стъ є҆мꙋ̀;

10

Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

καὶ ἐὰν ἰχθὺν αἰτήσῃ, μὴ ὄφιν ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;

И҆лѝ а҆́ще ры́бы про́ситъ, є҆да̀ ѕмїю̀ пода́стъ є҆мꙋ̀;

11

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

εἰ οὗν ὑμεῖς, πονηροὶ ὄντες, οἴδατε δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς δώσει ἀγαθὰ τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν;
