Apostol § 281

1 Timothy
Prokeimenon, Tone 4

God is wonderful in His Saints, / the God of Israel.

Verse: Bless God in the Churches, the Lord out of Israel’s wellsprings.

My son Timothy, this charge I commit unto you according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage a good war, having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, of whom are Hymenáeus and Alexander, whom I delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme… Therefore I desire that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; in like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire, but (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works. Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, and love, and holiness, with sobriety.

Alleluia, Tone 1

I waited patiently for the Lord; He inclined to me, and heard my cry.

Communion Hymn

The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not fear evil tidings.
