καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι, ἃς ἐβασίλευσεν ῾Ιεροβοὰμ εἴκοσι δύο ἔτη· καὶ ἐκοιμήθη μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐβασίλευσε Ναβὰτ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ.
И҆ дні́е, въ ни́хже ца́рствова і҆еровоа́мъ, два́десѧть два̀ лѣ̑та: и҆ ᲂу҆́спе со ѻ҆тцы̑ свои́ми, и҆ воцари́сѧ нава́тъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀ вмѣ́стѡ є҆гѡ̀.
And Roboam did evil in the sight of the Lord; and he provoked him in all the things which their fathers did in their sins which they sinned.
καὶ ἐποίησε Ῥοβοὰμ τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ παρεζήλωσεν αὐτὸν ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἐποίησαν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις αὐτῶν, αἷς ἥμαρτον,
И҆ сотворѝ ровоа́мъ лꙋка́вое пред̾ гдⷭ҇емъ: и҆ раздражѝ є҆го̀ ѡ҆ всѣ́хъ, ꙗ҆̀же сотвори́ша ѻ҆тцы̀ и҆́хъ, ѡ҆ грѣсѣ́хъ и҆́хъ, и҆́миже согрѣши́ша:
And they built for themselves high places, and pillars, and [planted] groves on every high hill, and under every shady tree.
καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν ἑαυτοῖς ὑψηλὰ καὶ στήλας καὶ ἄλση ἐπὶ πάντα βουνὸν ὑψηλὸν καὶ ὑποκάτω παντὸς ξύλου συσκίου.
и҆ созда́ша сі́и себѣ̀ высѡ́каѧ, и҆ столпы̀, и҆ ка̑пища на всѧ́цѣмъ холмѣ̀ высо́цѣмъ и҆ под̾ всѧ́цѣмъ дре́вомъ сѣно́внымъ:
And there was a conspiracy in the land, and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord removed from before the children of Israel.
καὶ σύνδεσμος ἐγενήθη ἐν τῇ γῇ, καὶ ἐποίησαν ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν βδελυγμάτων τῶν ἐθνῶν, ὧν ἐξῇρε Κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου υἱῶν ᾿Ισραήλ.
и҆ смѣше́нїе бѣ̀ въ землѝ и҆́хъ, и҆ сотвори́ша ѿ всѣ́хъ ме́рзостей ꙗ҆зы́ческихъ, ꙗ҆̀же ѿѧ̀ гдⷭ҇ь ѿ лица̀ сынѡ́въ і҆и҃левыхъ.
“There was also prostitution in the land.” [The Scripture] does not refer to the mere [prostitution] of bodies, nor to that of the soul, which is idolatry, but to that [prostitution] spread by demons among the Gentiles in order to corrupt God’s creature and work, namely, humanity. And this [form of prostitution] did not exist among the people. It is in this regard that the Fathers warned the children of the church, “[to abstain] from prostitution, from anything that has been strangled and from blood.” This is a first form of that prostitution: before being united in marriage according to the law, the virgins had intercourse with the priests of the demons. A second form took place when in the course of one or two years the virgins devoted themselves to prostitution for the satisfaction of Satan and later became property of men, that is, they sat along the roads and sold their bodies.
Books of Sessions 1 Kings 14:24
And it came to pass in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Susakim king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;
καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ πέμπτῳ βασιλεύοντος Ῥοβοάμ, ἀνέβη Σουσακὶμ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου ἐπὶ ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ
И҆ бы́сть въ лѣ́то пѧ́тое ца́рствꙋющагѡ ровоа́ма, взы́де сꙋсакі́мъ ца́рь є҆гѵ́петскїй на і҆ерⷭ҇ли́мъ
Rehoboam spread and increased the idolatry introduced by Solomon after being instigated in this sin by his Gentile mother Naamah. And this seems to be hinted at in the Scripture which reports Rehoboam’s apostasy just after mentioning his impious mother. Many examples that occur in this book, such as those of Maacah, Jezebel and Athaliah, amply demonstrate how the marriages made with foreign women had the power to corrupt the customs of the Israelites in this regard. Therefore, since God wanted to punish the offense caused by the violation of piety, he allowed Shishak, the king of Egypt, to enter Judea with a huge army, to conquer Jerusalem, to plunder the temple and the royal house and to destroy everything.
On the First Book of Kings 14:25
and took all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king’s house, and the golden spears which David took out of the hand of the sons of Adrazaar king of Suba, and brought them into Jerusalem, even all that he took, [and] the golden shields which Solomon had made, [[and carried them away into Egypt.]]
καὶ ἔλαβε πάντας τοὺς θησαυροὺς οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τὰ δόρατα τὰ χρυσᾶ, ἃ ἔλαβε Δαυὶδ ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν παίδων ᾿Αδραζὰρ βασιλέως Σουβά, καὶ εἰσήνεγκεν αὐτὰ εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τὰ πάντα, ἃ ἔλαβεν, ὅπλα τὰ χρυσᾶ, ὅσα ἐποίησε Σαλωμών, καὶ ἐπήνεγκεν αὐτὰ εἰς Αἴγυπτον.
и҆ взѧ̀ всѧ̑ сокрѡ́вища до́мꙋ гдⷭ҇нѧ и҆ сокрѡ́вища до́мꙋ царе́ва, и҆ кѡ́пїѧ злата̑ѧ, ꙗ҆̀же взѧ̀ даві́дъ и҆з̾ рꙋкѝ ѻ҆трокѡ́въ а҆драаза́ра царѧ̀ сꙋ́вскагѡ и҆ внесѐ ѧ҆̀ во і҆ерⷭ҇ли́мъ: всѧ̑ сїѧ̑ взѧ̀, и҆ щиты̀ златы̑ѧ, ꙗ҆̀же сотворѝ соломѡ́нъ, и҆ внесѐ ѧ҆̀ во є҆гѵ́петъ.
And king Roboam made brazen shields instead of them; and the chiefs of the body guard, who kept the gate of the house of the king, were placed in charge over them.
καὶ ἐποίησε Ῥοβοὰμ ὁ βασιλεὺς ὅπλα χαλκᾶ ἀντ᾿ αὐτῶν. καὶ ἐπέθεντο ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν οἱ ἡγούμενοι τῶν παρατρεχόντων οἱ φυλάσσοντες τὸν πυλῶνα οἴκου βασιλέως.
И҆ сотворѝ ца́рь ровоа́мъ щиты̀ мѣ̑дѧныѧ вмѣ́стѡ тѣ́хъ, и҆ поста́ви над̾ ни́ми вла́стєли ѿ предходѧ́щихъ пред̾ ни́мъ, и҆̀же хранѧ́хꙋ врата̀ до́мꙋ царе́ва:
And it came to pass when the king went into the house of the Lord, that the body guard took them up, and fixed them in the chamber of the body guard.
καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε εἰσεπορεύετο ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς οἶκον Κυρίου, καὶ ᾖρον αὐτὰ οἱ παρατρέχοντες καὶ ἀπηρείδοντο αὐτὰ εἰς τὸ θεὲ τῶν παρατρεχόντων.
и҆ бы́сть є҆гда̀ вхожда́ше ца́рь въ до́мъ гдⷭ҇ень, и҆ ноша́хꙋ ѡ҆́ныѧ предходѧ́щїи, и҆ па́ки возвраща́хꙋ ты̑ѧ во ѻ҆рꙋжехрани́лище предходѧ́щихъ.
And the rest of the history of Roboam, and all that he did, behold, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda?
καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν λόγων Ῥοβοὰμ καὶ πάντα, ἃ ἐποίησεν, οὐκ ἰδοὺ ταῦτα γεγραμμένα ἐν βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν τοῖς βασιλεῦσιν ᾿Ιούδα;
Прѡ́чаѧ же слове́съ ровоа́млихъ, и҆ всѧ̑ ꙗ҆̀же сотворѝ, не се́ ли, сїѧ̑ пи̑сана сꙋ́ть въ кни́зѣ слове́съ дні́й ца́рства і҆ꙋ́дина;
And there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam continually.
καὶ πόλεμος ἦν ἀνὰ μέσον Ῥοβοὰμ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον ῾Ιεροβοὰμ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας.
И҆ бра́нь бѣ̀ междꙋ̀ ровоа́момъ и҆ междꙋ̀ і҆еровоа́момъ во всѧ̑ дни̑.
And Roboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Abiu his son reigned in his stead.
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Ῥοβοὰμ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ θάπτεται μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ ἐν πόλει Δαυίδ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ᾿Αβιοὺ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ.
И҆ ᲂу҆́спе ровоа́мъ со ѻ҆тцы̑ свои́ми, и҆ погребе́нъ бы́сть со ѻ҆тцы̑ свои́ми во гра́дѣ даві́довѣ. И҆ воцари́сѧ а҆ві́а сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀ вмѣ́стѡ є҆гѡ̀.
At that time Abia son of Jeroboam was ill.
᾿Εν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἠρρώστησεν ᾿Αβιὰ υἱὸς ῾Ιεροβοὰμ
Во вре́мѧ ѻ҆́но разболѣ́сѧ а҆ві́а сы́нъ і҆еровоа́мль.
And Jeroboam said to his wife, Rise up And disguise [yourself] that they shall not know that you are the wife of Jeroboam, and go unto Selo! Behold, Achia the prophet is there, he spoke unto me to reign over this people.
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ῾Ιεροβοὰμ πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ· ἀνάστηθι καὶ ἀλλοιωθήσῃ, καὶ οὐ γνώσονται ὅτι σὺ γυνὴ ῾Ιεροβοάμ, καὶ πορευθήσῃ εἰς Σηλώ· καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐκεῖ ᾿Αχιὰ ὁ προφήτης, αὐτὸς ἐλάλησεν ἐμὲ τοῦ βασιλεῦσαι ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον.
И҆ речѐ і҆еровоа́мъ къ женѣ̀ свое́й: воста́ни и҆ и҆змѣнѝ ри̑зы своѧ̑, да не позна́ютъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ ты̀ жена̀ і҆еровоа́мова, и҆ и҆дѝ въ силѡ́мъ: се́ бо, та́мѡ а҆хі́а прⷪ҇ро́къ: то́й глаго́ла мнѣ̀ є҆́же ца́рствовати над̾ людьмѝ си́ми:
"At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam fell sick," and [the king], being worried for the health of his son, sent his wife to the prophet Ahijah because he was confident that through the prayers of that holy man he would obtain from God, whom he had repudiated, the healing of his son.
On the First Book of Kings 14:1
And take in your hand to the man of God bread loaves and small cakes to his children, and dried grapes, and a jar of honey, and you shall go to him; he will announce to you what will be to the child.
καὶ λαβὲ εἰς τὴν χεῖρά σου τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἄρτους καὶ κολλυρίδα τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτοῦ καὶ σταφίδας καὶ στάμνον μέλιτος, καὶ ἐλεύσῃ πρὸς αὐτόν. αὐτὸς ἀναγγείλῃ σοι τί ἔσται τῷ παιδί.
и҆ возмѝ въ рꙋ́цѣ твоѝ человѣ́кꙋ бж҃їю де́сѧть хлѣ́бѡвъ, и҆ ѡ҆прѣсно́ки ча́дѡмъ є҆гѡ̀, и҆ гро́здїе и҆ сосꙋ́дъ ме́да, и҆ и҆дѝ къ немꙋ̀: то́й возвѣсти́тъ тѝ, что̀ бꙋ́детъ ѻ҆троча́ти.
And he did not want the queen to appear [before the prophet] without a present against the custom of the ancestors. Therefore "she took ten loaves of bread," that is, ten soldiers' biscuits, "a jar of honey and dry fruits": the Greek text has staphylas, that is, grapes, instead of dry fruits. He did not want her to offer a regal present, lest she might appear in her real nature.
On the First Book of Kings 14:1
And thus did the wife of Jeroboam. And she rose up and went to Selo, and entered into the house of Achia. And the man was too old to see, and his eyes were dim from his old age.
καὶ ἐποίησεν οὕτως γυνὴ ῾Ιεροβοάμ· καὶ ἀνέστη καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς Σηλώ, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ἐν οἴκῳ ᾿Αχιά· καὶ ὁ ἄνθρωπος πρεσβύτερος τοῦ ἰδεῖν, καὶ ἠμβλυώπουν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ γήρους αὐτοῦ.
И҆ сотворѝ та́кѡ жена̀ і҆еровоа́млѧ: и҆ воста̀ и҆ и҆́де въ силѡ́мъ, и҆ вни́де въ до́мъ а҆хі́инъ: человѣ́къ же ста́ръ бѧ́ше є҆́же ви́дѣти, и҆ притꙋпи́стасѧ ѻ҆́чи є҆гѡ̀ ѿ ста́рости є҆гѡ̀.
And the Lord said to Achia, Behold the wife of Jeroboam enters to seek an utterance from you concerning his son, for he is ill. According to this and according to that you shall say to her. And it came to pass in her entering that she was as a stranger.
καὶ Κύριος εἶπε πρὸς ᾿Αχιά· ἰδοὺ γυνὴ τοῦ ῾Ιεροβοὰμ εἰσέρχεται τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι ῥῆμα παρὰ σοῦ περὶ υἱοῦ αὐτῆς, ὅτι ἄρρωστός ἐστι· κατὰ τοῦτο καὶ κατὰ τοῦτο λαλήσεις πρὸς αὐτήν. καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἰσέρχεσθαι αὐτὴν καὶ αὐτὴ ἀπεξενοῦτο.
И҆ речѐ гдⷭ҇ь ко а҆хі́и: сѐ, жена̀ і҆еровоа́мова вхо́дитъ вопроша́ти тѧ̀ ѡ҆ сы́нѣ свое́мъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ болѣ́знꙋетъ: по семꙋ̀ и҆ по семꙋ̀ да глаго́леши къ не́й. И҆ бы́сть внегда̀ вни́ти є҆́й, и҆ ѻ҆на̀ странноѧвлѧ́шесѧ.
And it came to pass as Achia heard the sound of her feet in her entering in the passage, that he said, Enter, O wife of Jeroboam, why is this you are [disguised] as a stranger and I am to you a harsh envoy.
καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν ᾿Αχιὰ τὴν φωνὴν ποδῶν αὐτῆς, εἰσερχομένης αὐτῆς ἐν τῷ ἀνοίγματι, καὶ εἶπεν· εἴσελθε, γυνὴ ῾Ιεροβοάμ· ἱνατί σὺ τοῦτο ἀποξενοῦσαι; καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ἀπόστολος πρός σε σκληρός.
И҆ бы́сть є҆гда̀ ᲂу҆слы́ша а҆хі́а шꙋ́мъ но́гъ є҆ѧ̀, входѧ́щей є҆́й во врата̀, и҆ речѐ: вни́ди, же́но і҆еровоа́мова, почто̀ ты̀ та́кѡ странноѧвлѧ́ешисѧ; а҆́зъ бо є҆́смь посла́нникъ къ тебѣ̀ же́стокъ:
But when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam; why do you pretend to be another?” He heard her coming in, [the text] says, because he could not see anymore after his eyes had become dim from his old age. Yet through divine revelation he understood that she was Jeroboam’s wife, even though she wanted to hide this from the prophet, whom she knew to be justifiably enraged [with her husband]. Therefore the prophet, beginning his speech, harshly attacked Jeroboam and condemned with very severe words his violation of pacts and piety and his oblivion to all the benefits that he had received from the generous hand of God, so that [the prophet] finally predicted huge calamities, the destruction of the kingdom and the complete ruin of [Jeroboam’s] entire family.
On the First Book of Kings 14:6
In going, say to Jeroboam, Thus says the Lord God of Israel, Because as much as I exalted you from the midst of the people and appointed you leading over the people of Israel,
πορευθεῖσα εἰπὸν τῷ ῾Ιεροβοάμ· τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ᾿Ισραήλ· ἀνθ᾿ οὗ ὅσον ὕψωσά σε ἀπὸ μέσου λαοῦ καὶ ἔδωκά σε ἡγούμενον ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου ᾿Ισραήλ,
ше́дши рцы̀ і҆еровоа́мꙋ: сїѧ̑ гл҃етъ гдⷭ҇ь бг҃ъ і҆и҃левъ: поне́же толи́кѡ вознесо́хъ тѧ̀ ѿ среды̀ люді́й, и҆ да́хъ тѧ̀ вожда̀ над̾ людьмѝ мои́ми і҆и҃лемъ,
and tore the crown of state from the house of David and gave it to you; and you have not become as my servant David who kept my commandments, and who went after me with all his heart, to do right in my eyes.
καὶ ἔρρηξα σὺν τὸ βασίλειον ἀπὸ τοῦ οἶκου Δαυὶδ καὶ ἔδωκα αὐτό σοι καὶ οὐκ ἐγένου ὡς ὁ δοῦλός μου Δαυίδ, ὃς ἐφύλαξε τὰς ἐντολάς μου καὶ ὃς ἐπορεύθη ὀπίσω μου ἐν πάσῃ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ ποιῆσαι ἕκαστος τὸ εὐθὲς ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς μου
и҆ раздра́хъ ца́рство ѿ до́мꙋ даві́дова, и҆ да́хъ є҆̀ тебѣ̀, ты́ же не бы́лъ є҆сѝ ꙗ҆́коже ра́бъ мо́й даві́дъ, и҆́же сохранѝ за́пѡвѣди моѧ̑, и҆ и҆́же хожда́ше в̾слѣ́дъ менє̀ всѣ́мъ се́рдцемъ свои́мъ, є҆́же твори́ти всѧ́кꙋю правотꙋ̀ пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма мои́ма,
“The Lord is compassionate and merciful, long-suffering and plenteous in mercy.” “The Lord is sweet to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works.” You hear that his mercies are so great, and do you dare to put your trust in your own virtue? “Let all your works, O Lord, confess to you.” If people are also part of his works, then all people should confess their sins. We read it said in Samuel about Solomon: “He shall build a house to my name, and I shall establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son.” And again: “If he commits any iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of people, but my mercy I will not take away from him.” After giving thanks to God, David said in conclusion, “And this is the law of humankind.” Have recourse, O Lord, always to your mercy, and sustain the weakness of my flesh by your divine assistance. “What have I to do,” he says, “with you also, you sons of Sarvia? Let Shimei curse. The Lord had bid him curse David. And who shall say to him, why have you done so?” For the will of God is not to be discussed but kindly accepted. And in another place: “The Lord commanded that the profitable counsel of Ahitophel be defeated that he might bring evil on Absalom,” whose counsel was certainly the counsel of God. And for what reason was the power of the free will subverted by a greater power? Jeroboam, who caused Israel to sin, is reproved for having neglected the commandment of the Lord, and it is said to him, “I gave you the kingdom of the house of David, and you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments and followed me with all his heart, doing that which was well pleasing in my sight.” Therefore, the commandments of God are possible, which we know David had kept; and yet, we find holy people growing weary in maintaining justice forever.
Against the Pelagians 2.20
But you did wickedly doing more than all as many as were in front of you, and you have gone and made yourself other gods and molten images to provoke me to anger, and have tossed me behind you.
καὶ ἐπονηρεύσω τοῦ ποιῆσαι παρὰ παντός, ὅσοι ἐγένοντο εἰς πρόσωπόν σου καὶ ἐπορεύθης καὶ ἐποίησας σεαυτῷ θεοὺς ἑτέρους χωνευτὰ τοῦ παροργίσαι με καὶ ἐμὲ ἔρριψας ὀπίσω σώματός σου·
и҆ и҆злꙋка́вствовалъ є҆сѝ, є҆́же твори́ти па́че всѣ́хъ є҆ли́цы бы́ша пред̾ лице́мъ твои́мъ, и҆ поше́лъ є҆сѝ и҆ сотвори́лъ є҆сѝ себѣ̀ бо́ги чꙋ̑жды и҆ слїѧ̑ны, є҆́же раздражи́ти мѧ̀, и҆ ѿве́рглъ мѧ̀ є҆сѝ наза́дъ себє̀:
On account of this, behold, I bring evil to the house of Jeroboam, and I will utterly destroy of Jeroboam the one urinating against the wall; the one coming and the one being left behind in Israel; and I shall choose over the house of Jeroboam as one chooses the dung unto finishing it.
διὰ τοῦτο ἐγὼ ἄγω κακίαν πρός σε εἰς οἶκον ῾Ιεροβοάμ· ἐξολοθρεύσω τοῦ ῾Ιεροβοὰμ οὐροῦντα πρὸς τοῖχον ἐχόμενον καὶ ἐγκαταλελειμμένον ἐν ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ἐπιλέξω οἴκου ῾Ιεροβοάμ, καθὼς ἐπιλέγεται ἡ κόπρος, ὡς τελειωθῆναι αὐτόν·
сегѡ̀ ра́ди сѐ, а҆́зъ навождꙋ̀ ѕла̑ѧ на до́мъ і҆еровоа́мовъ, и҆ потреблю̀ і҆еровоа́млѧ моча́щаго къ стѣнѣ̀, держа́щагосѧ и҆ ѡ҆ста́вленаго во і҆и҃ли, и҆ и҆стреблю̀ до́мъ і҆еровоа́мовъ, ꙗ҆́коже и҆стреблѧ́етсѧ гно́й, до́ндеже сконча́тисѧ є҆мꙋ̀:
The one having died of Jeroboam in the city the dogs shall devour, and the one having died in the field the birds of heaven shall devour; for the Lord has spoken it.
οἱ τεθνηκότες τοῦ ῾Ιεροβοὰμ ἐν τῇ πόλει, καταφάγονται οἱ κύνες, καὶ τὸν τεθνηκότα ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ καταφάγονται τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, ὅτι Κύριος ἐλάλησε.
ᲂу҆ме́ршихъ і҆еровоа́млихъ во гра́дѣ снѣдѧ́тъ псѝ, и҆ ᲂу҆ме́ршаго на селѣ̀ снѣдѧ́тъ пти̑цы небє́сныѧ, ꙗ҆́кѡ гдⷭ҇ь гл҃а:
And you rise up, go unto your house! In the entering of your feet in the city the child shall die.
καὶ σὺ ἀναστᾶσα πορεύθητι εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου· ἐν τῷ εἰσέρχεσθαι πόδα σου τὴν πόλιν, ἀποθανεῖται τὸ παιδάριον·
ты́ же воста́вши и҆дѝ въ до́мъ тво́й: внегда̀ входи́ти нога́ма твои́ма во гра́дъ, ᲂу҆́мретъ дѣ́тищь,
There is therefore no absurdity in the prophets [of the Jews] having uttered predictions even about events of no importance, to soothe those who desire such things, as when Samuel prophesies regarding three donkeys that were lost, or when mention is made in the third book of Kings respecting the sickness of a king’s son. And why should not those who desired to obtain auguries from idols be severely rebuked by the administrators of the law among the Jews, as Elijah is found rebuking Ahaziah and saying, “Is it because there is not a God in Israel that you go to inquire of Baalzebub, god of Ekron?”
Against Celsus 1.36
And all Israel shall lament him, and entomb him, for this one only of Jeroboam shall enter the tomb; for there shall be found in him a good word concerning the Lord God of Israel among the house of Jeroboam.
καὶ κόψονται αὐτὸν πᾶς ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ θάψουσιν αὐτόν, ὅτι οὗτος μόνος εἰσελεύσεται τῷ ῾Ιεροβοὰμ πρὸς τάφον, ὅτι εὑρέθη ἐν αὐτῷ ρῆμα καλὸν περὶ τοῦ Κυρίου Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν οἴκῳ ῾Ιεροβοάμ·

[The Scripture] calls “something pleasing” the fact that [Jeroboam] sent his wife to the prophet of God and not to the impostors and diviners. We must constantly admire the mercy of God, who increases many times over every good [action] performed by mortals and then returns it to them. This is quite evident from what he did for that father of the error of the calves and protector of the iniquity of Baal, namely, Ahab. Because of his fast of one day, and the night in which he slept in sackcloth, punishment was averted from his house and his kingdom for three years in order to show [God’s] mercy and exhort sinners to repentance.
Books of Sessions 1 Kings 14:13
And the Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who shall strike the house of Jeroboam this day, and yet also indeed now.
καὶ ἀναστήσει Κύριος ἑαυτῷ βασιλέα ἐπὶ ᾿Ισραήλ, ὃς πλήξει τὸν οἶκον ῾Ιεροβοάμ ταύτῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ· καὶ τί καὶ νῦν;
и҆ возста́витъ гдⷭ҇ь себѣ̀ царѧ̀ над̾ і҆и҃лемъ, и҆́же порази́тъ до́мъ і҆еровоа́мовъ въ се́й де́нь: а҆ что̀, и҆ нн҃ѣ;
And the Lord shall strike Israel as a shaken reed in the water. And he shall pluck Israel upward out of this good soil which he gave their fathers. And he shall winnow them on the other side of the river, because of the many sacred groves that they made, provoking the Lord to anger.

And the Lord gave Israel favor from the sins of Jeroboam who sinned and who led Israel into sin.
καὶ παραδώσει Κύριος τὸν ᾿Ισραὴλ χάριν ἁμαρτιῶν ῾Ιεροβοάμ, ὃς ἥμαρτε καὶ ὃς ἐξήμαρτε τὸν ᾿Ισραήλ.
и҆ преда́стъ гдⷭ҇ь і҆и҃лѧ за грѣхѝ і҆еровоа̑мли, и҆́же согрѣшѝ и҆ и҆́же во грѣ́хъ введѐ і҆и҃лѧ.
And the wife of Jeroboam rose up and went into Sarira. And it came to pass as she entered in the threshold of the house that the child died.
καὶ ἀνέστη ἡ γυνὴ ῾Ιεροβοὰμ καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς γῆν Σαριρά· καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἰσῆλθεν ἐν τῷ προθύρῳ τοῦ οἴκου καὶ τὸ παιδάριον ἀπέθανε.
И҆ воста̀ жена̀ і҆еровоа́млѧ и҆ прїи́де во сарі́рꙋ. И҆ бы́сть є҆гда̀ вни́де въ преддве́рїе до́мꙋ, и҆ дѣ́тищь ᲂу҆́мре.
And they entombed him, and all Israel lamented him according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by the hand of his servant Achia the prophet.
καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐκόψαντο αὐτὸν πᾶς ᾿Ισραήλ, κατὰ τὸ ρῆμα Κυρίου, ὃ ἐλάλησεν ἐν χειρὶ δούλου αὐτοῦ ᾿Αχιὰ τοῦ προφήτου.
И҆ погребо́ша є҆го̀, и҆ пла́кашасѧ є҆гѡ̀ ве́сь і҆и҃ль по словесѝ гдⷭню, є҆́же гл҃а рꙋко́ю раба̀ своегѡ̀ а҆хі́и прⷪ҇ро́ка.
And the extra things of Jeroboam, as much as he waged war, and as much as he reigned, behold, they have been written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Israel.
καὶ περισσὸν ρημάτων ῾Ιεροβοάμ, ὅσα ἐπολέμησε καὶ ὅσα ἐβασίλευσεν, ἰδοὺ αὐτὰ γεγραμμένα ἐπὶ βιβλίου ρημάτων τῶν ἡμερῶν τῶν βασιλέων ᾿Ισραὴλ.
И҆ ѡ҆ста́нокъ слове́съ і҆еровоа́мовыхъ, є҆ли̑ка ра́товаше и҆ є҆ли̑ка ца́рствоваше, сѐ, сїѧ̑ напи̑сана въ кни́зѣ слове́съ дні́й царе́й і҆и҃левыхъ.
And the days which Jeroboam reigned were twenty and two years. And he slept with his fathers, and Nabat his son reigned instead of him.
καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι, ἃς ἐβασίλευσεν ῾Ιεροβοὰμ εἴκοσι δύο ἔτη· καὶ ἐκοιμήθη μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐβασίλευσε Ναβὰτ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ.
И҆ дні́е, въ ни́хже ца́рствова і҆еровоа́мъ, два́десѧть два̀ лѣ̑та: и҆ ᲂу҆́спе со ѻ҆тцы̑ свои́ми, и҆ воцари́сѧ нава́тъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀ вмѣ́стѡ є҆гѡ̀.
And Roboam son of Solomon ruled over Juda. Roboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in the city Jerusalem, which the Lord chose to put his name there out of all the tribes of Israel: and his mother’s name [was] Naama the Ammonitess.
ΚΑΙ Ῥοβοὰμ υἱὸς Σαλωμὼν ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ ᾿Ιούδαν· υἱὸς τεσσαράκοντα καὶ ἑνὸς ἐνιαυτῶν Ῥοβοὰμ ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτὸν καὶ ἑπτακαίδεκα ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τῇ πόλει, ἣν ἐξελέξατο Κύριος θέσθαι τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐκεῖ ἐκ πασῶν φυλῶν τοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ· καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Νααμὰ ἡ ᾿Αμμωνῖτις.
Ровоа́мъ же сы́нъ соломѡ́новъ ца́рствова над̾ і҆ꙋ́дою: бѣ̀ четы́редесѧти и҆ є҆ди́нагѡ лѣ́та, є҆гда̀ нача̀ ца́рствовати, и҆ седмьна́десѧть лѣ́тъ ца́рствова во і҆ерⷭ҇ли́мѣ гра́дѣ, є҆го́же и҆збра̀ гдⷭ҇ь положи́ти и҆́мѧ своѐ та́мѡ ѿ всѣ́хъ племе́нъ і҆и҃левыхъ. И҆ и҆́мѧ ма́тере є҆гѡ̀ наама̀ а҆ммані́тѧнынѧ.
