Commentary from 1 father
(17) These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Livni and Shim‘i.
καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Γεδσών· Λοβενὶ καὶ Σεμεΐ.
Сы́нове же каа́ѳѡвы: а҆мра́мъ и҆ і҆ссаа́ръ, хеврѡ́нъ и҆ ѻ҆зїи́лъ.
(18) The sons of K’hat: ‘Amram, Yitz’har, Hevron and ‘Uzi’el.
υἱοὶ Καάθ· ῎Αμβραμ καὶ ᾿Ισσάαρ, Χεβρὼν καὶ ᾿Οζιήλ.
Сы́нове же а҆мра̑мли: а҆арѡ́нъ и҆ мѡѷсе́й и҆ марїа́мъ. Сы́нове же а҆арѡ́нѡвы: нада́въ и҆ а҆вїꙋ́дъ, є҆леаза́ръ и҆ і҆ѳама́ръ.
(19) The sons of M’rari: Machli and Mushi. These are the families of the L’vi’im according to father’s clans:
υἱοὶ Μεραρί· Μοολὶ καὶ ῾Ομουσί. καὶ αὗται αἱ πατριαὶ τοῦ Λευὶ κατὰ πατριὰς αὐτῶν.
И҆ є҆леаза́ръ родѝ фїнее́са, и҆ фїнее́съ родѝ а҆вїꙋ́да,
(20) [The descendants] of Gershom: his son Livni, his son Yachat, his son Zimah,
τῷ Γεδσών· τῷ Λοβενὶ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ ᾿Ιὲθ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Ζαμμὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
и҆ а҆вїꙋ́дъ родѝ воккі́а, и҆ воккі́й родѝ ѻ҆зі́ю,
(21) his son Yo’ach, his son ‘Iddo, his son Zerach, his son Ye’atrai.
᾿Ιωὰχ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Αδδὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Ζαρὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Ιεθρὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ.
ѻ҆зі́а же родѝ саре́а, и҆ саре́й родѝ марїѡ́ѳа,
(22) The descendants of K’hat: his son ‘Amminadav, his son Korach, his son Asir,
υἱοὶ Καάθ· ᾿Αμιναδὰβ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Κορὲ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Ασὴρ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ.
марїѡ́ѳъ же родѝ а҆марі́ю, а҆марі́а же родѝ а҆хїтѡ́ва,
(23) his son Elkanah, his son Evyasaf, his son Asir,
῾Ελκανὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Αβισὰφ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
а҆хїтѡ́въ же родѝ садѡ́ка, и҆ садѡ́къ родѝ а҆хїмаа́са,
(24) his son Tachat, his son Uri’el, his son ‘Uziyah and his son Sha’ul.
Θαὰθ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Οὐριὴλ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Οζία υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Σαοὺλ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ.
а҆хїмаа́съ же родѝ а҆за́рїю и҆ а҆за́рїа родѝ і҆ѡана́на,
(25) The sons of Elkanah: ‘Amasai and Achimot.
καὶ υἱοὶ ῾Ελκανά, ᾿Αμασὶ καὶ ᾿Αχιμώθ,
і҆ѡана́нъ же родѝ а҆за́рїю, то́й є҆́сть а҆за́рїа, и҆́же свѧще́нствова въ домꙋ̀, є҆го́же созда̀ соломѡ́нъ во і҆ерⷭ҇ли́мѣ.
(26) As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah: his son Tzofai, his son Nachat,
῾Ελκανὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Σουφὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ Ναὰθ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
Роди́ же а҆за́рїа а҆марі́ю, и҆ а҆марі́а родѝ а҆хїтѡ́ва,
(27) his son Eli’av, his son Yerocham and his son Elkanah.
᾿Ελιὰβ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ῾Ιερεὰμ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ῾Ελκανὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ.
а҆хїтѡ́въ же родѝ садѡ́ка, и҆ садѡ́къ родѝ селлꙋ́ма,
(28) The sons of Sh’mu’el: Vashni the firstborn, then Aviyah.
υἱοὶ Σαμουήλ· ὁ πρωτότοκος Σανὶ καὶ ᾿Αβιά.
и҆ селлꙋ́мъ родѝ хелкі́ю, и҆ хелкі́а родѝ а҆за́рїю,
(29) The descendants of M’rari: Machli, his son Livni, his son Shim‘i, his son ‘Uzah,
υἱοὶ Μεραρί· Μοολί, Λοβενὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Σεμεΐ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Οζὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
и҆ а҆за́рїа родѝ саре́а, и҆ саре́й родѝ і҆ѡседе́ка.
(30) his son Shim‘a, his son Hagiyah and his son ‘Asayah.
Σαμαὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Αγγία υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Ασαΐας υἱὸς αὐτοῦ.
І҆ѡседе́къ же и҆зы́де, є҆гда̀ преселѝ гдⷭ҇ь і҆ꙋ́дꙋ и҆ і҆ерⷭ҇ли́ма рꙋко́ю навꙋходоно́сора въ вавѷлѡ́нъ.
(31) David appointed them to be in charge of the service of song in the house of Adonai after the ark had found a permanent resting place.
καὶ οὗτοι, οὓς κατέστησε Δαυὶδ ἐπὶ χεῖρας ἆδόντων ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου ἐν τῇ καταπαύσει τῆς κιβωτοῦ,
Сы́нове же леѵі́ини: герсѡ́нъ, каа́ѳъ и҆ мера́рї.
(32) They served as singers before the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, until Shlomo had built the house of Adonai in Yerushalayim; and they carried out their tasks in a prescribed order.
καὶ ἦσαν λειτουργοῦντες ἐναντίον τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐν ὀργάνοις, ἕως οὗ ᾠκοδόμησε Σαλωμὼν τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ, καὶ ἔστησαν κατὰ τὴν κρίσιν αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τὰς λειτουργίας αὐτῶν.
И҆ сїѧ̑ и҆мена̀ сынѡ́въ герсѡ́нихъ: ловені́й и҆ семе́й.
(33) Those who carried out these tasks and their descendants were — starting with descendants of the K’hati — Heman the singer, the son of Yo’el the son of Sh’mu’el,
καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἑστηκότες καὶ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν τοῦ Καάθ· Αἰμὰν ὁ ψαλτῳδὸς υἱὸς ᾿Ιωήλ, υἱοῦ Σαμουήλ,
Сы́нове же каа́ѳѡвы: а҆мра́мъ и҆ і҆ссаа́ръ, хеврѡ́нъ и҆ ѻ҆зїи́лъ.
(34) the son of Elkanah, the son of Yerocham, the son of Eli’el, the son of Toach,
υἱοῦ ῾Ελκανά, υἱοῦ ῾Ιερεβὰμ υἱοῦ ᾿Ελιὴλ υἱοῦ Θοοὺ
Сы́нове же мера̑рїны: моолі̀ и҆ мꙋсі̀. И҆ сі́и ро́ди леѵі́ини по ѻ҆те́чествѡмъ и҆́хъ.
(35) the son of Tzuf, the son of Elkanah, the son of Machat, the son of ‘Amasai,
υἱοῦ Σοὺφ υἱοῦ ῾Ελκανὰ υἱοῦ Μαὰθ υἱοῦ ᾿Αμαθὶ
Герсѡ́нови: ловені́й сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, і҆е́ѳъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, се́мна сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀,
(36) the son of Elkanah, the son of Yo’el, the son of ‘Azaryah, the son of Tz’fanyah,
υἱοῦ ῾Ελκανὰ υἱοῦ ᾿Ιωὴλ υἱοῦ ᾿Αζαρία υἱοῦ Σαφανία
і҆ѡ́ла сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆́ддо сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, за́ра сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, і҆еѳрі̀ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀.
(37) the son of Tachat, the son of Asir, the son of Evyasaf, the son of Korach,
υἱοῦ Θαὰθ υἱοῦ ᾿Ασὴρ υἱοῦ ᾿Αβιασὰφ υἱοῦ Κορὲ
Сы́нове каа́ѳѡвы: и҆ссаа́ръ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆мїнада́въ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, коре́й сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆си́ръ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀,
(38) the son of Yitz’har, the son of K’hat, the son of Levi, the son of Isra’el.
υἱοῦ ᾿Ισάαρ υἱοῦ Καὰθ υἱοῦ Λευὶ υἱοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ.
є҆лка́на сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆вїса́фъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆си́ръ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀,
(39) His brother Asaf, who stood on his right, was Asaf the son of Berekhyah, the son of Shim‘a,
καὶ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ ᾿Ασὰφ ὁ ἑστηκὼς ἐν δεξιᾷ αὐτοῦ· ᾿Ασὰφ υἱὸς Βαραχία υἱοῦ Σαμαὰ
каа́ѳъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, ᲂу҆рїи́лъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, ѻ҆зі́а сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, саꙋ́лъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀.
(40) the son of Mikha’el, the son of Ba‘aseyah, the son of Malkiyah,
υἱοῦ Μιχαὴλ υἱοῦ Βαασία υἱοῦ Μελχία
Сы́нове же є҆лка́нѡвы: а҆масі̀ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆мїѡ́ѳъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀,
(41) the son of Etni, the son of Zerach the son of ‘Adayah,
υἱοῦ ᾿Αθανὶ υἱοῦ Ζαραΐ υἱοῦ ᾿Αδαΐ
є҆лка́на сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, сꙋфі́й сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, и҆ наа́ѳъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀,
(42) the son of Eitan, the son of Zimah, the son of Shim‘i,
υἱοῦ Αἰθὰν υἱοῦ Ζαμμὰ υἱοῦ Σεμεΐ
є҆лїа́въ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, і҆еремеи́лъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, є҆лка́на сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, самꙋи́лъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀.
(43) the son of Yachat, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi.
υἱοῦ ᾿Ιεὲθ υἱοῦ Γεθσὼν υἱοῦ Λευί.
Сы́нове же самꙋи̑ли: пе́рвенецъ є҆гѡ̀ і҆ѡи́ль и҆ вторы́й а҆ві́а.
(44) On the left were their kinsmen the descendants of M’rari: Eitan the son of Kishi, the son of ‘Avdi, the son of Malukh,
καὶ υἱοὶ Μεραρὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν ἐξ ἀριστερῶν· Αἰθὰν υἱὸς Κισὰ υἱοῦ ᾿Αβαΐ υἱοῦ Μαλὼχ
Сы́нове же мера̑рїны: моолі̀ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, ловені́й сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, семе́й сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, ѻ҆зі́а сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀,
(45) the son of Hashavyah, the son of Amatzyah, the son of Hilkiyah,
υἱοῦ ᾿Ασεβὶ υἱοῦ ᾿Αμεσία υἱοῦ Χελκίου
саммаа̀ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆на́нїй сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆саі́а сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀.
(46) the son of Amtzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer,
υἱοῦ ᾿Αμασαΐ υἱοῦ Βανὶ υἱοῦ Σεμὴρ
Сі́и же сꙋ́ть, и҆̀хже поста́ви даві́дъ над̾ пѣвцы̑ въ домꙋ̀ гдⷭ҇ни, є҆гда̀ поста́ви кївѡ́тъ:
(47) the son of Machli, the son of Mushi, the son of M’rari, the son of Levi.
υἱοῦ Μοολὶ υἱοῦ Μουσὶ υἱοῦ Μεραρὶ υἱοῦ Λευί.
и҆ бѧ́хꙋ слꙋжа́ще пред̾ ски́нїею до́мꙋ свидѣ́нїѧ въ пѣ́нїи, до́ндеже созда̀ соломѡ́нъ до́мъ гдⷭ҇ень во і҆ерⷭ҇ли́мѣ, и҆ стоѧ́хꙋ по чи́нꙋ своемꙋ̀ въ слꙋже́нїи свое́мъ.
(48) Their kinsmen the L’vi’im were put in charge of all the service of the tabernacle of the house of God.
καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν, οἱ Λευῖται οἱ δεδομένοι εἰς πᾶσαν ἐργασίαν λειτουργίας σκηνῆς οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ.
И҆ сі́и предстоѧ́щїи и҆ сы́нове и҆́хъ ѿ сынѡ́въ каа́ѳовыхъ: є҆ма́нъ пѣве́цъ сы́нъ і҆ѡи́лѧ, сы́на самꙋи́лева,
(49) But Aharon and his sons were the ones who offered on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense for all the service of the Especially Holy Place and to make atonement for Isra’el, in keeping with all that Moshe the servant of God had ordered to be done.
καὶ ᾿Ααρὼν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ θυμιῶντες ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τῶν ὁλοκαυτωμάτων καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τῶν θυμιαμάτων εἰς πᾶσαν ἐργασίαν ἅγια τῶν ἁγίων καὶ ἐξιλάσκεσθαι περὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ κατὰ πάντα, ὅσα ἐνετείλατο Μωυσῆς παῖς τοῦ Θεοῦ.

(50) These are the descendants of Aharon: his son El‘azar, his son Pinchas, his son Avishua,
καὶ οὗτοι υἱοὶ ᾿Ααρών· ᾿Ελεάζαρ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Φινεὲς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Αβισοὺ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
сы́на сꙋ́фова, сы́на є҆лкана́ева, сы́на а҆мїѡ́ѳова, сы́на а҆ма́сова,
(51) his son Buki, his son ‘Uzi, his son Z’rachyah,
Βωκαὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Οζὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Ζαραΐα υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
сы́на є҆лка́нова, сы́на і҆ѡи́лева, сы́на а҆зарі́ева, сы́на сафані́ева,
(52) his son M’rayot, his son Amaryah, his son Achituv,
Μαριὴλ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Αμαρία υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Αχιτὼβ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
сы́на маа́ѳова, сы́на а҆ссе́рова, сы́на а҆вїаса́фова, сы́на а҆си́рова, сы́на коре́ова,
(53) his son Tzadok and his son Achima‘atz.
Σαδὼκ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, ᾿Αχιμάας υἱὸς αὐτοῦ.
сы́на а҆мїнада́вова, сы́на і҆саа́рова, сы́на каа́ѳова, сы́на леѵі́ина, сы́на і҆и҃лева:
(54) These were the settlements of the descendants of Aharon according to the territories assigned them: to the descendants of Aharon, of the clans of the K’hati — for the first lot fell to them —
καὶ αὗται αἱ κατοικίαι αὐτῶν ἐν ταῖς κώμαις αὐτῶν, ἐν τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῶν· τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ααρὼν τῇ πατριᾷ τοῦ Κααθὶ —ὅτι αὐτοῖς ἐγένετο ὁ κλῆρος—
и҆ бра́тъ є҆гѡ̀ а҆са́фъ, и҆́же стоѧ́ша ѡ҆деснꙋ́ю є҆гѡ̀: а҆са́фъ сы́нъ варахі́и, сы́на самаа́ева,
(55) they gave Hevron in the land of Y’hudah with the open land surrounding it,
καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτοῖς τὴν Χεβρὼν ἐν γῇ ᾿Ιούδα καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς κύκλῳ αὐτῆς·
сы́на мїхаи́лова, сы́на масі́лова, сы́на мелхі́ева,
(56) but the fields and the dependent villages of the city they gave to Kalev the son of Y’funeh.
καὶ τὰ πεδία τῆς πόλεως καὶ τὰς κώμας αὐτῆς ἔδωκαν τῷ Χαλὲβ υἱῷ ᾿Ιεφοννή.
сы́на а҆ѳані́ева, сы́на зара́ева, сы́на а҆даі́ева,
(57) To the descendants of Aharon they gave the city of refuge Hevron, also Livnah with its surrounding open land, Yatir, Esht’moa with its surrounding open land,
καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ααρὼν ἔδωκαν τὰς πόλεις τῶν φυγαδευτηρίων, τὴν Χεβρὼν καὶ τὴν Λοβνὰ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν ᾿Εσθαμὼ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς
сы́на и҆ѳа́мова, сы́на земми́на, сы́на семеі́ева,
(58) Hilen with its surrounding open land, D’vir with its surrounding open land,
καὶ τὴν ᾿Ιεθθὰρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Δαβὶρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς
сы́на і҆ее́ѳова, сы́на герсѡ́нова, сы́на леѵі́ина.
(59) ‘Ashan with its surrounding open land, Beit-Shemesh with its surrounding open land;
καὶ τὴν ᾿Ασὰν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Βασαμὺς καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς.
Сы́нове же мера̑рїны бра́тїѧ и҆́хъ ѡ҆шꙋ́юю: є҆ѳа́мъ сы́нъ хꙋсі́и, сы́на а҆вді́ина, сы́на малѡ́хова,
(60) and out of the tribe of Binyamin: Geva with its surrounding open land, ‘Alemet with its surrounding open land and ‘Anatot with its surrounding open land. All the cities for all their clans amounted to thirteen cities.
καὶ ἐκ φυλῆς Βενιαμὶν τὴν Γαβαὲ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Γαλεμὲθ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν ᾿Αναθὼθ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς· πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις αὐτῶν τρισκαίδεκα πόλεις κατὰ πατριὰς αὐτῶν.
сы́на саві́ева, сы́на а҆масі́ева, сы́на хелкі́ева,
(61) The rest of the descendants of K’hat were assigned by lot, clan by clan, ten cities from the half-tribe of M’nasheh.
καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Καὰθ τοῖς καταλοίποις ἐκ τῶν πατριῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς ἐκ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ κλήρῳ πόλεις δέκα.
сы́на а҆масі́ева, сы́на вані́ина, сы́на семи́рова,
(62) The descendants of Gershom were assigned, clan by clan, thirteen cities from the tribes of Yissakhar, Asher, Naftali and M’nasheh in Bashan.
καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Γεδσὼν κατὰ πατριὰς αὐτῶν ἐκ φυλῆς ᾿Ισσάχαρ, ἐκ φυλῆς ᾿Ασήρ, ἀπὸ φυλῆς Νεφθαλί, ἐκ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ ἐν τῇ Βασὰν πόλεις τρισκαίδεκα.
сы́на моолі́ина, сы́на мꙋсі́ева, сы́на мера́рїна, сы́на леѵі́ина.
(63) To the descendants of M’rari were assigned by lot, clan by clan, twelve cities from the tribes of Re’uven, Gad and Z’vulun.
καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Μεραρί κατὰ πατριὰς αὐτῶν ἐκ φυλῆς Ῥουβήν, ἐκ φυλῆς Γάδ, ἐκ φυλῆς Ζαβουλὼν κλήρῳ πόλεις δεκαδύο.
Бра́тїѧ же и҆́хъ по домѡ́мъ ѻ҆те́чествъ и҆́хъ, леѵі́тѧне даны̀ во всѧ́кое дѣ́ло слꙋже́нїѧ ски́нїи до́мꙋ бж҃їѧ:
(64) So the people of Isra’el gave the L’vi’im these cities with the surrounding open land.
καὶ ἔδωκαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ τοῖς Λευίταις τὰς πόλεις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῶν·
и҆ а҆арѡ́нъ и҆ сы́нове є҆гѡ̀ кадѧ́хꙋ над̾ ѻ҆лтаре́мъ всесожже́нїй и҆ над̾ ѻ҆лтаре́мъ ѳѷмїа́ма во всѧ́кое дѣ́ло ст҃ы́хъ ст҃ы̑мъ, и҆ да мо́лѧтсѧ за і҆и҃лѧ по всемꙋ̀, є҆ли̑ка повелѣ̀ мѡѷсе́й ра́бъ бж҃їй.
(65) From the tribes of the descendants of Y’hudah, Shim‘on and Binyamin they assigned these cities mentioned by name.
καὶ ἔδωκαν ἐν κλήρῳ ἐκ φυλῆς υἱῶν ᾿Ιούδα καὶ ἐκ φυλῆς υἱῶν Συμεὼν καὶ ἐκ φυλῆς υἱῶν Βενιαμὶν τὰς πόλεις ταύτας, ἃς ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὰς ἐπ᾿ ὀνόματος.
Сі́и же сы́нове а҆арѡ̑ни: є҆леаза́ръ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, фїнее́съ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀, а҆вїꙋ́дъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀,
(66) Some of the clans of the descendants of K’hat were given cities in territory from the tribe of Efrayim.

(76) and from the tribe of Naftali: Kedesh in the Galil with the surrounding open land, Hamon with the surrounding open land and Kiryatayim with the surrounding open land.
καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Νεφθαλὶ τὴν Κέδες ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Χαμὼθ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Καριαθαΐμ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς.

(77) To the rest [of the L’vi’im], the descendants of M’rari, were given, from the tribe of Z’vulun: Rimmono with the surrounding open land and Tavor with the surrounding open land;
τοῖς υἱοῖς Μεραρὶ τοῖς καταλοίποις ἐκ φυλῆς Ζαβουλὼν τὴν Ῥεμμὼν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Θαλλιὰ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς,

(79) K’demot with the surrounding open land and Mefa‘at with the surrounding open land;

(80) and from the tribe of Gad: Ramot in Gil‘ad with the surrounding open land, Machanayim with the surrounding open land,
καὶ ἐκ φυλῆς Γὰδ τὴν Ῥαμμὼθ Γαλαὰδ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Μααναΐμ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς

The sons of Levi: Gershom, K’hat and M’rari.

There is abundant information in the books of Chronicles which were written to continue the books of the Kings and to preserve the memory of such important events. The first book begins with a genealogy that sets out to demonstrate how the human race came from a single man. Since it focuses only on the single kingdom of Judah, it can tell us about its cities and the villages, and from where they took their names. Here we come to know Nathan, from whom the blessed Luke constructed the beginning of his genealogy of our Lord and Savior, Son of David and Solomon's brother4 on his mother's side: "The following children were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimeah, Shobab, Nathan and Solomon, that is, the four children he fathered with Bersabea, daughter of Ammiel." And Rechab6 herself, who is mentioned in many books of Scripture, is said to have come from the tribe of Judah.It also clearly explains why Reuben lost his birthright and Joseph gained it and also, finally, the reason why the tribe of Judah obtained the highest honor: "The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel. He was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father's bed his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, so that he is not enrolled in the genealogy according to the birthright; though Judah became prominent among his brothers and a ruler came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph." It also explains the reason why such a great honor was conceded to Joseph. By the will of God Judah had the dignity of receiving the Lord who was born from him according to the flesh. This is the sense tacitly expressed with the words "a leader from him." Indeed the passage seems to assert that not only the kings of the earth derived from Judah, but also the eternal king himself who had no beginning and will never end. It also describes the situation of the tribes beyond the Jordan, those of Reuben and Gad, and even the tribes of Manasseh which later were received into those of the Hagarites and the Itureans, and talks about the tribes of the Naphiseans, and all those peoples who entered into conflict with them. In addition the text relates how they fought and won, and made the Hagarites flee. And it also reports the reason for the victory: "When they received help against them, the Hagarites and all who were with them were given into their hands, for they cried to God in the battle, and he granted their entreaty because they trusted in him." It also describes the amount of the spoils of war: "They captured their livestock: 50, of their camels, 250, sheep, 2, donkeys and 100, captives. Many were slain because the war was from God. And they lived in their territory until the exile."
QUESTIONS ON 1 CHRONICLES, PROLOGUEThe genealogy of the priests and the Levites comes after this. It relates that Zadok, who was high priest at the time of David, had been the eleventh from Aaron; that Azariah, nephew of Zadok, had been the first to receive the priestly anointing in the temple built by Solomon. Among them there was also Jehozadak, who was brought to Babylon as a war prisoner. Jesus9 was his son, a high priest as well, who delivered the people from bondage together with Zerubbabel, and built a temple for the Lord. Here we also learn that Korah, who revolted against the great Moses, was a nephew of Isaar, son of Caath and brother of Amram, Aaron's and Moses' father. According to this lineage he was related to the first legislator. But he himself paid in the desert for his errors, although his children did not share the punishment of their father. From here Samuel13 came and then Aeman, who intoned Psalms and was a nephew of the prophet Samuel. In fact he was the son of Joel, son of Samuel. On the other hand, Asaph, one of the singers, came from the lineage of Gerson, son of Levi and brother of Caath. Aetham, who also belonged to the group of the singers, had Merari, the third son of Levi, as great-grandfather.The text also explains the difference between the priests and the Levites. It relates that the Levites were initiated into all the ministries of the holy altar of God: "But Aaron and his sons made offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense, doing all the work of the most holy place, to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded." It seems to me, in fact, that this book was written after the return from Babylon. For this reason it also talks about the bondage and explains its cause: "So all Israel was enrolled by genealogies; and these are written in the book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their unfaithfulness. Now the first to live again in their possessions in their towns were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants." These accounts show that the book was begun after the captivity. Indeed no historian ever relates facts that happened afterwards, but what happened before or during his times. And actually only the prophets have the power to foretell the future. In addition it says that also those who had inhabited that land before them had been enslaved. And actually many of them still live with them: the Canaanites, Chettites, Jebusites, who had been their companions in such a misfortune. Also the priests and the Levites were brought into captivity with the Israelites. I believe that those who were called "the saints' servants" were then called Nathinim. Many of them, in fact, consecrated themselves to the ministries of the priests and the Levites. There were among them also those who were entrusted with the carrying of the water, the gathering of wood and other necessary duties. Indeed, if it was imposed to the Gabaonites, who were foreigners, to follow Joshua in the praises and to perform some works as porters or carpenters, this task was even more the duty of the Israelites. As a proof of this I have found in the interpretation of Hebrew names that this name means "house of Iaō," that is, "of the God who is." The text, in fact, mentions the children of Israel and among them Judah and Benjamin, and Ephraim18 and Manasseh. It also mentions the priests and the Levites, who inhabited those cities. About the Korēnites it says that they derived from Korah. It also says that among them there had been the guardians of the temple of God as well, and it seems that this custom had been introduced by Samuel and David. "All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were two hundred twelve. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. David and the prophet Samuel established them in their office of trust. So they and their descendants were in charge of the gates of the house of the Lord, that is, the house of the tent, as guards. The gatekeepers were on the four sides, east, west, north, and south."
QUESTIONS ON 1 CHRONICLES, PROLOGUEThe Chronicles also speak about the tabernacle because a temple of the Lord had not yet been built by either Samuel or David. The text also adds that that the holy services were held in the tabernacle. Worship was observed at that time according to the number of the days of the week. For it also says, "and their kindred who were in their villages were obliged to come in every seven days, in turn, to be with them." With regard to the holy utensils it says, "Some of them had charge of the utensils of service, for they were required to count them when they were brought in and taken out. Others of them were appointed over the furniture, and over all the holy utensils, also over the choice flour, the wine, the oil, the incense and the spices." And about the priests it says, "Others, of the sons of the priests, prepared the mixing of the spices." With regard to the tomb of Saul the Chronicles gives us much information, and in the Book of Kings itself we read that his bones were gathered and buried in the land of Jabesh.
