Philippians 3:1–8 § 244

Philippians 3:1–8 § 244

Brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of them that mutilate the flesh! For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; as concerning the law, a Phárisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the Church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were a gain to me, these I have counted as a loss for the sake of Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things as a loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord … for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ…

2 Timothy 2:1–10 § 292 (Artemius)

2 Timothy 2:1–10 (Artemius) § 292

Artemius

My son Timothy, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who shall be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who chose him to be a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the farmer that labors who must take the first share of the crops. Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things. Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my Gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Luke 9.49-56 § 48

Luke 9.49-56 § 48

49

And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

50

And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

51

And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

52

And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.

53

And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.

54

And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωάννης εἶπον· Κύριε, θέλεις εἴπωμεν πῦρ καταβῆναι ἀπὸ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀναλῶσαι αὐτούς, ὡς καὶ Ἠλίας ἐποίησε;

Ви̑дѣвша же ᲂу҆чн҃ка̑ є҆гѡ̀ і҆а́кѡвъ и҆ і҆ѡа́ннъ, рѣ́ста: гдⷭ҇и, хо́щеши ли, рече́ма, да ѻ҆́гнь сни́детъ съ небесѐ и҆ потреби́тъ и҆̀хъ, ꙗ҆́коже и҆ и҆лїа̀ сотворѝ;

55

But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

56

For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
