Apostol § 95

Romans 7:14–8:2

Brethren, we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. I do not understand that which I do. For I do not do what I want; but I do the very thing that I hate. If, then, I do what I do not want to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, within my flesh; for I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good that I want; but the evil which I do not want, is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. I find then to be a law, that evil is present with me, whenever I want to do good. For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law, warring with the law of my mind, and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death? I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh [I serve] the law of sin... There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit...
