Apostol § 154ctr

1 Corinthians 13:11–14:5

Brethren, When I was a child, I spoke as a child, understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know even as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love... Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he that speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak unto men but unto God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the Church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the Church may receive edification.
