And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
ΚΑΙ ἐλάλησε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων·
И҆ речѐ гдⷭ҇ь къ мѡѷсе́ю, гл҃ѧ:
Speak to the children of Israel, and take first-fruits of all, who may be disposed in their heart to give; and ye shall take my first-fruits.
εἰπὸν τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ισραήλ, καὶ λάβετε ἀπαρχὰς παρὰ πάντων, οἷς ἂν δόξῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ, καὶ λήψεσθε τὰς ἀπαρχάς μου.
рцы̀ сынѡ́мъ і҆и҃лєвымъ, и҆ да во́змꙋтъ мѝ нача́тки ѿ всѣ́хъ, ꙗ҆̀же ᲂу҆гѡ́дна бꙋ́дꙋтъ се́рдцꙋ и҆́хъ, да во́змете нача́тки моѧ̑.
And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold and silver and brass,
καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ἀπαρχή, ἣν λήψεσθε παρ᾿ αὐτῶν· χρυσίον καὶ ἀργύριον καὶ χαλκὸν
Се́й же є҆́сть нача́токъ, є҆го́же во́змете ѿ ни́хъ: зла́то и҆ сребро̀ и҆ мѣ́дь,
and rams’ skins dyed red, and blue skins, and incorruptible wood, [and oil for the light, incense for anointing oil, and for the composition of incense,]
καὶ δέρματα κριῶν ἠρυθροδανωμένα καὶ δέρματα ὑακίνθινα καὶ ξύλα ἄσηπτα
и҆ ко́жы ѡ҆́вни ѡ҆червленє́ны, и҆ ко́жы си̑ни, и҆ древа̀ негнїю̑щаѧ,
and sardius stones, and stones for the carved work of the breast-plate, and the full-length robe.
καὶ λίθους σαρδίου καὶ λίθους εἰς τὴν γλυφὴν εἰς τὴν ἐπωμίδα καὶ τὸν ποδήρη.
и҆ є҆ле́й въ свѣще́нїе, ѳѷмїа́мъ во є҆ле́й пома́занїѧ и҆ въ сложе́нїе ѳѷмїа́ма,
And thou shalt make me a sanctuary, and I will appear among you.
καὶ ποιήσεις μοι ἁγίασμα, καὶ ὀφθήσομαι ἐν ὑμῖν·
и҆ ка́мєни сарді̑йскїѧ, и҆ ка́мєни въ ваѧ́нїе на є҆пѡмі́дꙋ {Є҆вр.: є҆ѳꙋ́дъ, славе́н.: нара́мникъ и҆лѝ ве́рхнѧѧ ри́за.} и҆ поди́ръ {до́лгаѧ ри́за}.
And thou shalt make for me according to all things which I shew thee in the mountain; even the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all its furniture: so shalt thou make it.
καὶ ποιήσεις μοι κατὰ πάντα ὅσα σοι δεικνύω ἐν τῷ ὄρει, τὸ παράδειγμα τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ τὸ παράδειγμα πάντων τῶν σκευῶν αὐτῆς· οὕτω ποιήσεις.
И҆ да сотвори́ши мѝ ѡ҆сщ҃е́нїе, и҆ ꙗ҆влю́сѧ въ ва́съ:
And thou shalt make the ark of testimony of incorruptible wood; the length of two cubits and a half, and the breadth of a cubit and a half, and the height of a cubit and a half.
Καὶ ποιήσεις κιβωτὸν μαρτυρίου ἐκ ξύλων ἀσήπτων, δύο πήχεων καὶ ἡμίσους τὸ μῆκος καὶ πήχεως καὶ ἡμίσους τὸ πλάτος καὶ πήχεως καὶ ἡμίσους τὸ ὕψος.
и҆ сотвори́ши мѝ по всемꙋ̀, є҆ли̑ка а҆́зъ покажꙋ̀ тебѣ̀ на горѣ̀, ѡ҆́бразъ ски́нїи и҆ ѡ҆́бразъ всѣ́хъ сосꙋ́дѡвъ є҆ѧ̀: си́це да сотвори́ши.
By saying [to him], “You shall make everything according to the model of the tabernacle that I will show you,” he first called it a model and a temporal tabernacle to indicate that it was transitory and that it would be replaced by the church, the perfect prototype which lasts forever. And so … they would esteem it because of its likeness to the heavenly tabernacle.
Commentary on Exodus 25:1
And thou shalt gild it with pure gold, thou shalt gild it within and without; and thou shalt make for it golden wreaths twisted round about.
καὶ καταχρυσώσεις αὐτὴν χρυσίῳ καθαρῷ, ἔσωθεν καὶ ἔξωθεν χρυσώσεις αὐτήν· καὶ ποιήσεις αὐτῇ κυμάτια χρυσᾶ στρεπτὰ κύκλῳ.
И҆ сотвори́ши кївѡ́тъ свидѣ́нїѧ ѿ дре́въ негнїю́щихъ, двою̀ ла́ктїй и҆ по́лъ въ долготꙋ̀, и҆ ла́ктѧ и҆ по́лъ въ широтꙋ̀, и҆ ла́ктѧ и҆ по́лъ въ высотꙋ̀:
But when the passage about the equipment of the tabernacle is read, believing that the things described therein are types, some seek for ideas which they can attach to each detail that is mentioned in connection with the tabernacle. Now so far as concerns their belief that the tabernacle is a type of something they are not wrong. But in rightly attaching the word of Scripture to the particular idea of which the tabernacle is a type, here they sometimes fall into error.

And thou shalt cast for it four golden rings, and shalt put them on the four sides; two rings on the one side, and two rings on the other side.
καὶ ἐλάσεις αὐτῇ τέσσαρας δακτυλίους χρυσοῦς καὶ ἐπιθήσεις ἐπὶ τὰ τέσσαρα κλίτη, δύο δακτυλίους ἐπὶ τὸ κλίτος τὸ ἓν καὶ δύο δακτυλίους ἐπὶ τὸ κλίτος τὸ δεύτερον.
и҆ позлати́ши є҆го̀ зла́томъ чи́стымъ, внꙋтрьꙋ́дꙋ и҆ внѣꙋ́дꙋ позлати́ши є҆го̀, и҆ сотвори́ши верхꙋ̀ є҆гѡ̀ вѣне́цъ зла́тъ виты́й ѡ҆́крестъ:
And thou shalt make staves [of] incorruptible wood, and shalt gild them with gold.
ποιήσεις δὲ ἀναφορεῖς ξύλα ἄσηπτα καὶ καταχρυσώσεις αὐτὰ χρυσίῳ·
и҆ слїе́ши є҆мꙋ̀ четы́ри кѡльца̀ зла̑та, и҆ возложи́ши на четы́ри страны̑ є҆гѡ̀, два̀ кольца̑ на є҆ди́нꙋ странꙋ̀, и҆ два̀ на дрꙋгꙋ́ю странꙋ̀.
What but the holy Church is figured by the ark? To which four rings of gold in the four corners are ordered to be adjoined, because, in that it is thus extended towards the four quarters of the globe, it is declared undoubtedly to be equipped for journeying with the four books of the holy Gospel. And staves of shittim-wood are made, and are put through the same rings for carrying, because strong and persevering teachers, as incorruptible pieces of timber, are to be sought for, who by cleaving ever to instruction out of the sacred volumes may declare the unity of the holy Church, and, as it were, carry the ark by being let into its rings. For indeed to carry the ark by means of staves is through preaching to bring the holy Church before the rude minds of unbelievers by means of good teachers. And these are also ordered to be overlaid with gold, that, while they are resonant to others in discourse, they may also themselves glitter in the splendour of their lives. Of whom it is further filly added, "They shall always be in the rings, nor shall they ever be drawn out from them;" because it is surely necessary that those who attend upon the office of preaching should not recede from the study of sacred lore.
The Book of Pastoral Rule, Part 2, Chapter 11
And thou shalt put the staves into the rings on the sides of the ark, to bear the ark with them.
καὶ εἰσάξεις τοὺς ἀναφορεῖς εἰς τοὺς δακτυλίους τοὺς ἐν τοῖς κλίτεσι τῆς κιβωτοῦ αἴρειν τὴν κιβωτὸν ἐν αὐτοῖς·
Сотвори́ши же нѡси́ла ѿ дре́ва негнїю́ща и҆ позлати́ши ѧ҆̀ зла́томъ чи́стымъ:
The staves shall remain fixed in the rings of the ark.
ἐν τοῖς δακτυλίοις τῆς κιβωτοῦ ἔσονται οἱ ἀναφορεῖς ἀκίνητοι.
и҆ вложи́ши нѡси́ла въ ко́льца, ꙗ҆̀же на страна́хъ кївѡ́та, носи́ти и҆́ми кївѡ́тъ:
And thou shalt put into the ark the testimonies which I shall give thee.
καὶ ἐμβαλεῖς εἰς τὴν κιβωτὸν τὰ μαρτύρια, ἃ ἂν δῷ σοι.
въ ко́льцахъ кївѡ́та да бꙋ́дꙋтъ нѡси́ла не зы́блющесѧ:
And thou shalt make a propitiatory, a lid of pure gold; the length of two cubits and a half, and the breadth of a cubit and a half.
καὶ ποιήσεις ἱλαστήριον ἐπίθεμα χρυσίου καθαροῦ, δύο πήχεων καὶ ἡμίσους τὸ μῆκος καί πήχεως καὶ ἡμίσους τὸ πλάτος.
и҆ вложи́ши въ кївѡ́тъ свидѣ̑нїѧ, ꙗ҆̀же да́мъ тебѣ̀.
And thou shalt make two cherubs graven in gold, and thou shalt put them on both sides of the propitiatory.
καὶ ποιήσεις δύο Χερουβὶμ χρυσοτορευτὰ καὶ ἐπιθήσεις αὐτὰ ἐξ ἀμφοτέρων τῶν κλιτῶν τοῦ ἱλαστηρίου.
И҆ да сотвори́ши ѡ҆чисти́лище покро́въ ѿ зла́та чи́ста, двою̀ ла́ктїй и҆ по́лъ въ долготꙋ̀, ла́ктѧ же и҆ по́лъ въ широтꙋ̀:
They shall be made, one cherub on this side, and another cherub on the other side of the propitiatory; and thou shalt make the two cherubs on the two sides.
ποιηθήσονται Χεροὺβ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ κλίτους τούτου καὶ Χεροὺβ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ κλίτους τοῦ δευτέρου τοῦ ἱλαστηρίου· καὶ ποιήσεις τοὺς δύο Χερουβὶμ ἐπὶ τὰ δύο κλίτη.
и҆ сотвори́ши два̀ херꙋві̑ма зла̑та и҆зва̑ѧнна, и҆ возложи́ши ѧ҆̀ ѿ ѻ҆бои́хъ стра́нъ ѡ҆чисти́лища:
We are told too that “the words of the Lord are pure words, as silver tried in the fire”; again, in another place “the tongue of the just” is said to be “as silver tried by fire.” And the cherubim are described as golden, because they are by interpretation the plentitude of knowledge. And it is commanded also that a candlestick of solid gold should be put in the tabernacle of the testimony; and that, it seems to us, is a type of the natural law in which the light of knowledge is contained. But what need is there to multiply proof texts when those who will can easily see for themselves from many Scripture passages that gold is applied to the intellect and mind, whereas silver is referred only to language and the power of speech?
Commentary on the Song of Songs 2:8
We can also understand the two Testaments by the two angels. Hence also the two cherubim that cover the mercy seat look upon one another with their faces turned toward the mercy seat. For cherubim means fullness of knowledge. And what is signified by the two cherubim except both Testaments? And what is figured by the mercy seat except the incarnate Lord? Of whom John says: For he is the propitiation for our sins. And while the Old Testament proclaims that this was to be done which the New Testament declares was done concerning the Lord, it is as if both cherubim look upon one another, while they turn their faces toward the mercy seat, because while they see the incarnate Lord placed between them, they do not disagree in their view, for they narrate the mystery of his dispensation in harmony.

The cherubs shall stretch forth their wings above, overshadowing the propitiatory with their wings; and their faces shall be toward each other, the faces of the cherubs shall be toward the propitiatory.
ἔσονται οἱ Χερουβὶμ ἐκτείνοντες τὰς πτέρυγας ἐπάνωθεν, συσκιάζοντες ἐν ταῖς πτέρυξιν αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τοῦ ἱλαστηρίου, καὶ τὰ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν εἰς ἄλληλα· εἰς τὸ ἱλαστήριον ἔσονται τὰ πρόσωπα τῶν Χερουβίμ.

And thou shalt set the propitiatory on the ark above, and thou shalt put into the ark the testimonies which I shall give thee.

And I will make myself known to thee from thence, and I will speak to thee above the propitiatory between the two cherubs, which are upon the ark of testimony, even in all things which I shall charge thee concerning the children of Israel.
καὶ γνωσθήσομαί σοι ἐκεῖθεν καὶ λαλήσω σοι ἄνωθεν τοῦ ἱλαστηρίου ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν δύο Χερουβὶμ τῶν ὄντων ἐπὶ τῆς κιβωτοῦ τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ κατὰ πάντα, ὅσα ἐὰν ἐντείλωμαί σοι πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραήλ.
и҆ да возложи́ши ѡ҆чисти́лище на кївѡ́тъ верхꙋ̀, и҆ въ кївѡ́тъ да вложи́ши свидѣ̑нїѧ, ꙗ҆̀же да́мъ тебѣ̀.
The same applied to the plate placed on top of the ark, from which the priest learned from God whatever was necessary by revelation once a year, when the high priest entered, at the solemn moment of prayer, while all the tribes of Israel were gathered and standing in awe and trembling in the outer tent in prayer. The high priest entered the inner sanctuary, and while he lay prostrate on his face, the utterances of God were audible from within that plate which was over the ark, by means of an awesome and ineffable revelation. How fearful was that mystery which was carried out on that occasion. It is the same with all the revelations and visions which have come to the saints: they have all occurred at the time of prayer.

And thou shalt make a golden table of pure gold, in length two cubits, and in breadth a cubit, and in height a cubit and a half.
Καὶ ποιήσεις τράπεζαν χρυσῆν χρυσίου καθαροῦ, δύο πήχεων τὸ μῆκος καὶ πήχεως τὸ εὖρος καὶ πήχεως καὶ ἡμίσους τὸ ὕψος.
И҆ позна́нъ бꙋ́дꙋ тебѣ̀ ѿтꙋ́дꙋ, и҆ возгл҃ю тебѣ̀ съ верхꙋ̀ ѡ҆чисти́лища междꙋ̀ двѣма̀ херꙋві̑мы, и҆̀же сꙋ́ть над̾ кївѡ́томъ свидѣ́нїѧ, и҆ по всѣ̑мъ, є҆ли̑ка а҆́ще заповѣ́мъ тебѣ̀ къ сынѡ́мъ і҆и҃лєвымъ.
And thou shalt make for it golden wreaths twisted round about, and thou shalt make for it a crown of an hand-breadth round about.

И҆ сотвори́ши трапе́зꙋ ѿ дре́въ негнїю́щихъ, двою̀ ла́ктїй въ долготꙋ̀, и҆ ла́ктѧ въ широтꙋ̀, и҆ ла́ктѧ и҆ по́лъ въ высотꙋ̀:
A dividing wall of cedar planks, twenty cubits high, was built in the temple to separate the inner sanctuary, that is, the Holy of Holies, from the forepart of the temple. The innersanctuary was twenty cubits deep, twenty cubits wide and twenty cubits high. The [part of the temple] in front of the inner sanctuary was forty cubits long, and in it were tables and the golden candelabrum, as well as the golden altar near the door of the inner sanctuary. This was done so that when incense was offered upon it, the cloud of smoke might rise up and cover the inner sanctuary, where the ark of the covenant was, “and above it the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat.”

And thou shalt make a twisted wreath for the crown round about.
καὶ ποιήσεις στρεπτὸν κυμάτιον τῇ στεφάνῃ κύκλῳ.
и҆ позлати́ши ю҆̀ зла́томъ чи́стымъ, и҆ сотвори́ши є҆́й вито́е ѡ҆бложе́нїе злато́е ѡ҆́крестъ, и҆ сотвори́ши є҆́й вѣне́цъ дла́ни ѡ҆́крестъ,
And thou shalt make four golden rings; and thou shalt put the four rings upon the four parts of its feet under the crown.
καὶ ποιήσεις τέσσαρας δακτυλίους χρυσοῦς καὶ ἐπιθήσεις τοὺς τέσσαρας δακτυλίους ἐπὶ τὰ τέσσερα μέρη τῶν ποδῶν αὐτῆς ὑπὸ τὴν στεφάνην,
и҆ сотвори́ши вито́е ѡ҆бложе́нїе вѣнцꙋ̀ ѡ҆́крестъ.
And the rings shall be for bearings for the staves, that they may bear the table with them.
καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δακτύλιοι εἰς θήκας τοῖς ἀναφορεῦσιν, ὥστε αἴρειν ἐν αὐτοῖς τὴν τράπεζαν.
И҆ сотвори́ши четы́ри кѡльца̀ зла̑та, и҆ возложи́ши четы́ри кольца̑ на четы́ри страны̑ но́гъ є҆ѧ̀ под̾ вѣне́цъ:
And thou shalt make the staves of incorruptible wood, and thou shalt gild them with pure gold; and the table shall be borne with them.
καὶ ποιήσεις τοὺς ἀναφορεῖς ἐκ ξύλων ἀσήπτων καὶ καταχρυσώσεις αὐτούς χρυσίῳ καθαρῷ, καὶ ἀρθήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς ἡ τράπεζα.
и҆ да бꙋ́дꙋтъ ко́льца на влага̑лища носи́ламъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ воздвиза́ти и҆́ми трапе́зꙋ.
And thou shalt make its dishes and its censers, and its bowls, and its cups, with which thou shalt offer drink-offerings: of pure gold shalt thou make them.
καὶ ποιήσεις τὰ τρυβλία αὐτῆς καὶ τὰς θυΐσκας καὶ τὰ σπονδεῖα καὶ τοὺς κιάθους, ἐν οἷς σπείσεις ἐν αὐτοῖς· ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ ποιήσεις αὐτά.
И҆ сотвори́ши нѡси́ла є҆ѧ̀ ѿ дре́въ негнїю́щихъ, и҆ позлати́ши ѧ҆̀ зла́томъ чи́стымъ, и҆ воздвиза́тисѧ бꙋ́детъ на ни́хъ трапе́за.
And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me continually.
καὶ ἐπιθήσεις ἐπὶ τὴν τράπεζαν ἄρτους ἐνωπίους ἐναντίον μου διαπαντός.
И҆ сотвори́ши блю̑да є҆ѧ̀ и҆ ѳѷмїа́мники, и҆ возлива́льники и҆ ча́шы, и҆́миже возлива́ти бꙋ́деши: ѿ зла́та чи́ста да сотвори́ши ѧ҆̀.
And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold; thou shalt make the candlestick of graven work: its stem and its branches, and its bowls and its knops and its lilies shall be of one piece.
Καὶ ποιήσεις λυχνίαν ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ, τορευτὴν ποιήσεις τὴν λυχνίαν· ὁ καυλὸς αὐτῆς καὶ οἱ καλαμίσκοι καὶ οἱ κρατῆρες καὶ οἱ σφαιρωτῆρες καὶ τὰ κρίνα ἐξ αὐτῆς ἔσται.
И҆ возлага́ти бꙋ́деши на трапе́зꙋ хлѣ́бы предложе́нїѧ предо мно́ю прⷭ҇нѡ.
And six branches proceeding sideways, three branches of the candlestick from one side of it, and three branches of the candlestick from the other side.
ἓξ δὲ καλαμίσκοι ἐκπορευόμενοι ἐκ πλαγίων, τρεῖς καλαμίσκοι τῆς λυχνίας ἐκ τοῦ κλίτους τοῦ ἑνὸς αὐτῆς καὶ τρεῖς καλαμίσκοι τῆς λυχνίας ἐκ τοῦ κλίτους τοῦ δευτέρου.
И҆ да сотвори́ши свѣти́льникъ ѿ зла́та чи́ста, и҆зва́ѧнъ да сотвори́ши свѣти́льникъ: сте́бль є҆гѡ̀ и҆ вѣ̑тви, и҆ ча́шы и҆ крꙋ́зи и҆ крі́ны ѿ негѡ̀ да бꙋ́дꙋтъ:
And three bowls fashioned like almonds, on each branch a knop and a lily; so to the six branches proceeding from the candlestick,
καὶ τρεῖς κρατῆρες ἐκτετυπωμένοι καρυΐσκους ἐν τῷ ἑνὶ καλαμίσκῳ, σφαιρωτὴρ καὶ κρίνον· οὕτω τοῖς ἓξ καλαμίσκοις τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ἐκ τῆς λυχνίας.
ше́сть же вѣ́твїй и҆сходѧ́щихъ ѿ стра́нъ, трѝ вѣ̑тви свѣти́льника ѿ страны̀ є҆гѡ̀ є҆ди́ныѧ и҆ трѝ вѣ̑тви свѣти́льника ѿ страны̀ вторы́ѧ:
and in the candlestick four bowls fashioned like almonds, in each branch knops and the flowers of the same.
καὶ ἐν τῇ λυχνίᾳ τέσσαρες κρατῆρες ἐκτετυπωμένοι καρυΐσκους· ἐν τῷ ἑνὶ καλαμίσκῳ σφαιρωτῆρες καὶ τὰ κρίνα αὐτῆς.
и҆ трѝ ча́шы во ѡ҆́бразъ ѻ҆рѣ́ха, на є҆ди́нѣй вѣ́тви крꙋ́гъ и҆ крі́нъ: та́кѡ шестѝ вѣ́твамъ и҆сходѧ́щымъ ѿ свѣти́льника:
A knop under two branches out of it, and a knop under four branches out of it; so to the six branches proceeding from the candlestick;
ὁ σφαιρωτὴρ ὑπὸ τοὺς δύο καλαμίσκους ἐξ αὐτῆς, καὶ σφαιρωτὴρ ὑπὸ τούς τέσσαρας καλαμίσκους ἐξ αὐτῆς· οὕτω τοῖς ἓξ καλαμίσκοις τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ἐκ τῆς λυχνίας.
и҆ на свѣти́льникѣ четы́ри ча́шы во ѡ҆́бразъ ѻ҆рѣ́ха, на є҆ди́нѣй вѣ́тви крꙋ́зи и҆ крі́ны є҆гѡ̀:
and in the candlestick four bowls fashioned like almonds.
καὶ ἐν τῇ λυχνίᾳ τέσσαρες κρατῆρες ἐκτετυπωμένοι καρυΐσκους.

Let the knops and the branches be of one piece, altogether graven of one piece of pure gold.

And thou shalt make its seven lamps: and thou shalt set on [it] the lamps, and they shall shine from one front.
καὶ ποιήσεις τοὺς λύχνους αὐτῆς ἑπτά· καὶ ἐπιθήσεις τοὺς λύχνους, καὶ φανοῦσιν ἐκ τοῦ ἑνὸς προσώπου.

And thou shalt make its funnel and its snuff-dishes of pure gold.
καὶ τὸν ἐπαρυστῆρα αὐτῆς καὶ τὰ ὑποθέματα αὐτῆς ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ ποιήσεις.

All these articles [shall be] a talent of pure gold.

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount. [Exodus 25:40] But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
Moreover it was said to Moses himself, “See that you make all things according to the form and likeness which was shown to you in the mount.” It seems to me, therefore, that … in this earth the law was a kind of schoolmaster to those who by it were appointed to be led to Christ and to be instructed and trained in order that after their training in the law they might be able with greater facility to receive the more perfect precepts of Christ. So also that other earth, when it receives all the saints, first imbues and educates them in the precepts of the true and eternal law in order that they may with greater facility accept the precepts of heaven which are perfect and to which nothing can ever be added. And in heaven will truly exist what is called the “eternal gospel” and the Testament that is always new, which can never grow old.
On First Principles 3.6.8
If, according to the apostle, “the law is spiritual” and contains within itself the images “of the good things to come,” then let us remove “the veil” of the letter which is spread over it and contemplate its true meaning stripped bare. The Jews were commanded to adorn their tabernacle as a proleptic imitation of the church, that through the things of sense they might be able to prefigure the image of things divine. For the exemplar which was shown forth on the mountain and on which Moses gazed when he constructed the tabernacle was in a way an accurate picture of the dwelling in heaven, to which indeed we pay homage insofar as it far surpasses the types in clarity and yet is far fainter than the reality. The fact is that the unmingled truth has not yet come to humanity as it is in itself, for here we would be unable to contemplate its pure incorruptibility, just as we cannot endure the rays of the sun with unshielded eyes. The Jews announced what was a shadow of an image, at a third remove from reality, whereas we ourselves clearly behold the image of the heavenly dispensation. But the reality itself will be accurately revealed after the resurrection when we shall see the holy tabernacle, the heavenly city, “whose builder and maker is God,” face to face, and not “in a dark manner” and only “in part.”

Behold, the glorification of matter, which you despise! What is more insignificant than colored goatskins? Are not blue and purple and scarlet merely colors? Behold the handiwork of men becoming the likeness of the cherubim! Was not the meeting tent an image in every way? “And see that you make them after the pattern for them, which is being shown you on the mountain.” Yet all the people stood around it and worshiped! Were not the cherubim kept where all the people could see them? Did not the people gaze upon the ark, and the lampstand, and the table, the golden urn and Aaron’s rod, and fall down in worship? I do not worship matter. I worship the Creator of matter, who became matter for me, taking up his abode in matter and accomplishing my salvation through matter.
