And he rested three years, and there was no war between Syria and Israel.
ΚΑΙ ἐκάθισε τὰ τρία ἔτη, καὶ οὐκ ἦν πόλεμος ἀνὰ μέσον Συρίας καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον ᾿Ισραήλ.
И҆ сѣ́де трѝ лѣ̑та, и҆ не бѣ̀ бра́ни междꙋ̀ сѷрі́ею и҆ междꙋ̀ і҆и҃лемъ.
And it came to pass in the third year, that Josaphat king of Juda went down to the king of Israel.
καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ τρίτῳ καὶ κατέβη ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ιούδα πρὸς βασιλέα ᾿Ισραήλ.
И҆ бы́сть въ лѣ́то тре́тїе, и҆ сни́де і҆ѡсафа́тъ ца́рь і҆ꙋ́динъ къ царю̀ і҆и҃левꙋ.
And the king of Israel said to his servants, Know ye that Remmath Galaad [is] ours, and we are slow to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?
καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ πρὸς τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ· εἰ οἴδατε ὅτι ἡμῖν Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ, καὶ ἡμεῖς σιωπῶμεν λαβεῖν αὐτὴν ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως Συρίας;
И҆ речѐ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ ко ѻ҆трокѡ́мъ свои̑мъ: вѣ́сте ли, ꙗ҆́кѡ моѧ̀ є҆́сть ремма́ѳа галаа́дскаѧ, и҆ мы̀ молчи́мъ взѧ́ти ю҆̀ ѿ рꙋкѝ царѧ̀ сѷрі́йска;
And the king of Israel said to Josaphat, Wilt thou go up with us to Remmath Galaad to battle?
καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ πρὸς ᾿Ιωσαφάτ· ἀναβήσῃ μεθ᾿ ἡμῶν εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον;
И҆ речѐ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ ко і҆ѡсафа́тꙋ: взы́деши ли съ на́ми въ ремма́ѳꙋ галаа́дскꙋю на бра́нь; И҆ речѐ і҆ѡсафа́тъ: ꙗ҆́коже а҆́зъ, та́кожде и҆ ты̀: ꙗ҆́коже лю́дїе моѝ, лю́дїе твоѝ: ꙗ҆́коже ко́ни моѝ, ко́ни твоѝ.
And Josaphat said, As I [am], so [art] thou also; as my people, [so is] thy people; as my horses, [so are] thy horses. And Josaphat king of Juda said to the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, of the Lord to-day.
καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιωσαφάτ· καθὼς ἐγὼ καὶ σὺ οὕτως, καθὼς ὁ λαός μου ὁ λαός σου, καθὼς οἱ ἵπποι μου οἱ ἵπποι σου. καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ιούδα πρὸς βασιλέα ᾿Ισραήλ· ἐπερωτήσατε δὴ σήμερον τὸν Κύριον.
И҆ речѐ і҆ѡсафа́тъ ца́рь і҆ꙋ́динъ къ царю̀ і҆и҃левꙋ: вопроси́те ᲂу҆̀бо дне́сь гдⷭ҇а.
And the king of Israel gathered all the prophets together, about four hundred men; and the king said to them, Shall I go up to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I forbear? and they said, Go up, and the Lord will surely give [it] into the hands of the king.
καὶ συνήθροισεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ πάντας τοὺς προφήτας, ὡς τετρακοσίους ἄνδρας, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ βασιλεύς· εἰ πορευθῶ εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον ἢ ἐπίσχω; καὶ εἶπον· ἀνάβαινε, καὶ διδοὺς δώσει Κύριος εἰς χεῖρας τοῦ βασιλέως.
И҆ собра̀ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ всѧ̑ проро́ки ꙗ҆́кѡ четы́реста мꙋже́й, и҆ речѐ ца́рь и҆̀мъ: взы́дꙋ ли въ ремма́ѳꙋ галаа́дскꙋю на бра́нь, и҆лѝ ѡ҆ста́влю; И҆ рѣ́ша: взы́ди, ꙗ҆́кѡ даѧ̀ преда́стъ гдⷭ҇ь въ рꙋ́ки царє́вы.
And Josaphat said to the king of Israel, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may enquire of the Lord by him?
καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ πρὸς βασιλέα ᾿Ισραήλ· οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε προφήτης τοῦ Κυρίου καὶ ἐπερωτήσομεν τὸν Κύριον δι᾿ αὐτοῦ;
И҆ речѐ і҆ѡсафа́тъ къ царю̀ і҆и҃левꙋ: нѣ́сть ли здѣ̀ прⷪ҇ро́ка гдⷭ҇нѧ, и҆ вопроси́ли бы́хомъ гдⷭ҇а и҆́мъ;
And the king of Israel called a eunuch and said, [Bring hither] quickly Michaias son of Jemblaa.
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ εὐνοῦχον ἕνα καὶ εἶπε· τὸ τάχος Μιχαίαν υἱὸν ᾿Ιεμβλαά.
И҆ призва̀ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ скопца̀ є҆ди́наго и҆ речѐ: ско́рѡ и҆дѝ по мїхе́ю сы́на і҆емвлаа́нѧ.
And the king of Israel and Josaphat king of Juda sat, each on his throne, armed in the gates of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ιούδα ἐκάθηντο ἀνὴρ ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου αὐτοῦ ἔνοπλοι ἐν ταῖς πύλαις Σαμαρείας, καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν.
Ца́рь же і҆и҃левъ и҆ і҆ѡсафа́тъ ца́рь і҆ꙋ́динъ сѣдѧ́ста кі́йждо на престо́лѣ свое́мъ воѡрꙋже́ни во вратѣ́хъ самарі́йскихъ, и҆ всѝ проро́цы прорица́хꙋ пред̾ ни́ми.
And Sedekias son of Chanaan made for himself iron horns, and said, Thus saith the Lord, With these thou shalt push Syria, until it be consumed.
καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ Σεδεκίας υἱὸς Χανανὰ κέρατα σιδηρᾶ καὶ εἶπε· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· ἐν τούτοις κερατιεῖς τὴν Συρίαν, ἕως συντελεσθῇ.
И҆ сотворѝ себѣ̀ седекі́а сы́нъ ханаа́нь рога̀ жєлѣ́зна и҆ речѐ: та́кѡ гл҃етъ гдⷭ҇ь: си́ми рога́ми и҆збоде́ши сѷрі́ю, до́ндеже сконча́етсѧ.
And all the prophets prophesied in like manner, saying, Go up to Remmath Galaad, and [the thing] shall prosper, and the Lord shall deliver it and the king of Syria into thine hands.
καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον οὕτως λέγοντες· ἀνάβαινε εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ, καὶ εὐοδώσει καὶ δώσει Κύριος εἰς χεῖράς σου καὶ τὸν βασιλέα Συρίας.
И҆ всѝ проро́цы прорица́хꙋ та́кѡ, глаго́люще: взы́ди въ ремма́ѳꙋ галаа́дскꙋю, и҆ наста́витъ тѧ̀, и҆ преда́стъ гдⷭ҇ь въ рꙋ́цѣ твоѝ царѧ̀ сѷрі́йскаго.
And the messenger that went to call Michaias spoke to him, saying, Behold now, all the prophets speak with one mouth good concerning the king, let now thy words be like the words of one of them, and speak good things.
καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος ὁ πορευθεὶς καλέσαι τὸν Μιχαίαν ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ λέγων· ἰδοὺ δὴ λαλοῦσι πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐν στόματι ἑνὶ καλὰ περὶ τοῦ βασιλέως· γίνου δὴ καὶ σὺ εἰς τοὺς λόγους σου κατὰ τοὺς λόγους ἑνὸς τούτων καὶ λάλησον καλά.
И҆ посо́лъ ше́дъ призва́ти мїхе́ю, речѐ є҆мꙋ̀, глаго́лѧ: сѐ, нн҃ѣ всѝ проро́цы ᲂу҆сты̑ є҆ди́ными глаго́лютъ дѡ́браѧ ѡ҆ царѝ, бꙋ́ди ᲂу҆̀бо и҆ ты̀ въ словесѣ́хъ твои́хъ по словесє́мъ є҆ди́нагѡ ѿ си́хъ и҆ глаго́ли дѡ́браѧ.
And Michaias said, [As] the Lord lives, whatsoever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak.
καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· ζῇ Κύριος, ὅτι ἃ ἐὰν εἴπῃ Κύριος πρός με, ταῦτα λαλήσω.
И҆ речѐ мїхе́а: жи́въ гдⷭ҇ь, ꙗ҆́кѡ ꙗ҆̀же рече́тъ гдⷭ҇ь ко мнѣ̀, сїѧ̑ возглаго́лю.
And he came to the king: and the king said to him, Michaias, shall I go up to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I forbear? and he said, Go up, and the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
καὶ ἦλθε πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεύς· Μιχαία, εἰ ἀναβῶ εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον, ἢ ἐπίσχω; καὶ εἶπεν· ἀνάβαινε, καὶ εὐοδώσει Κύριος εἰς χεῖρας τοῦ βασιλέως.
И҆ прїи́де ко царю̀. И҆ речѐ є҆мꙋ̀ ца́рь: мїхе́е, взы́дꙋ ли въ ремма́ѳꙋ галаа́дскꙋю на бра́нь, и҆лѝ ѡ҆ста́влю; И҆ речѐ є҆мꙋ̀: взы́ди, и҆ бл҃гопоспѣши́тъ гдⷭ҇ь въ рꙋ́ки царє́вы.
And the king said to him, How often shall I adjure thee, that thou speak to me truth in the name of the Lord?
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεύς· ποσάκις ἐγὼ ὁρκίζω σε ὅπως λαλήσῃς πρός με ἀλήθειαν ἐν ὀνόματι Κυρίου;
И҆ речѐ є҆мꙋ̀ ца́рь: є҆щѐ а҆́зъ два́жды заклина́ю тѧ̀, да рече́ши и҆́стинꙋ пред̾ гдⷭ҇емъ.
And he said, Not so. I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains as a flock without a shepherd: and the Lord said, [Is] not God lord of these? let each one return to his home in peace.
καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· οὐχ οὕτως. ἑώρακα πάντα τὸν ᾿Ισραὴλ διεσπαρμένον ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν ὡς ποίμνιον, ᾧ οὐκ ἔστι ποιμήν, καὶ εἶπε Κύριος· οὐ κύριος τούτοις Θεός; ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ἐν εἰρήνῃ ἀναστρεφέτω.
И҆ речѐ мїхе́а: не та́кѡ: ви́дѣхъ всего̀ і҆и҃лѧ разсѣ́ѧна по гора́мъ ꙗ҆́коже стада̀, и҆̀мже нѣ́сть па́стырѧ: и҆ речѐ гдⷭ҇ь: не гдⷭ҇ь ли си̑мъ въ бг҃а; да возврати́тсѧ кі́йждо въ до́мъ сво́й съ ми́ромъ.
“I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep that have no shepherd; and the Lord said, ‘These have no master; let each one go home in peace.’ ” Through these words [the prophet] shows that [Ahab’s] iniquity is the cause of the slaughter. In fact, if he had been a good and pious shepherd, he would have defeated his enemies with his own forces. Therefore, he shows the way to obtain salvation. “If the Lord is our God,” he says to them, “each one must go home in peace. If you believe in God and want to know from him what you need to do, dismiss the army.”

And the king of Israel said to Josaphat king of Juda, Did I not say to thee that this man does not prophesy good to me, for [he speaks] nothing but evil?
καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ πρὸς ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλέα ᾿Ιούδα· οὐκ εἶπα πρός σε ὅτι οὐ προφητεύει οὗτός μοι καλά, διότι ἀλλ᾿ ἢ κακά;

And Michaias said, Not so, [it is] not I: hear the word of the Lord; [it is] not so. I saw the God of Israel sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven stood about him on his right hand and on his left.
καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· οὐχ οὕτως, οὐκ ἐγώ, ἄκουε ῥῆμα Κυρίου, οὐχ οὕτως· εἶδον Θεὸν ᾿Ισραὴλ καθήμενον ἐπὶ θρόνου αὐτοῦ, καὶ πᾶσα ἡ στρατιὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ εἱστήκει περὶ αὐτὸν ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων.

Tell me, John, what do you mean when you say, “No one has ever seen God”? What shall we think about the prophets who say that they saw God? Isaiah said, “I saw the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne.” And, again, Daniel said, “I saw until the thrones were set, and the ancient of days sat.” And Micah said, “I saw the God of Israel sitting on his throne.” And, again, another prophet said, “I saw the Lord standing on the altar, and he said to me, ‘strike the mercy seat.’ ” And I can gather together many similar passages to show you as witnesses of what I say. How is it, then, that John says, “No one has ever seen God”? He says this so that you may know that he is speaking of a clear knowledge and perfect comprehension of God. All the cases cited were instances of God’s condescension and accommodation. That no one of those prophets saw God’s essence in its pure state is clear from the fact that each one saw him in a different way. God is a simple being; he is not composed of parts; he is without form or figure. But all these prophets saw different forms and figures.
Against the Anomoeans 4:18-19
How should we interpret the “throne of God” but as the angelic powers over whose minds the Lord presides from on high while he arranges everything below? And what does the “host of heaven” signify but the multitude of the attending angels? And what does the text mean when it asserts that the host of heaven is to the right and to the left of him? Indeed God, who is within everything as he is also outside everything, is not enclosed to the right or the left, and therefore the right of God indicates the elect portion of the angels, whereas the left designates the evil portion of the angels. In fact, not only the good ones who help God serve him, but so do those who are distressed because they do not want to return [to be helpful].… Therefore the host of the angels is to the right and to the left, because the will of the elect spirit agrees with the divine sense of justice. Therefore the mind of the evil ones, who serve their own malice is forced to fulfill the orders [of the Lord].
Commentary on the Third Book of Kings 22
And the Lord said, Who will deceive Achaab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall in Remmath Galaad? and one spoke one way, and another another way.
καὶ εἶπε Κύριος· τίς ἀπατήσει τὸν ᾿Αχαὰβ βασιλέα ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ἀναβήσεται καὶ πεσεῖται ἐν Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ; καὶ εἶπεν οὗτος οὕτως καὶ οὗτος οὕτως.

And there came forth a spirit and stood before the Lord, and said, I will deceive him.

21–22I think every evil and deceitful spirit is a lie, and whenever anyone of these speaks, it speaks from its own resources and by no means from the resources of God. And the father of these [spirits] is the liar, the devil. We will now present what moved us to say that every inferior spirit is false. It is written in the third book of Kings that at the time Micaiah was called by Ahab to prophesy concerning whether he should go to Ramoth-gilead for war or stay, he said, “I saw the God of Israel sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven stood around him on his right and on his left. And he said, ‘Who will deceive Ahab, king of Israel, and he will go up and fall in Ramoth-gilead?’ ” And he spoke in this manner. And a spirit came forth and stood before the Lord and said, “I will deceive him.” And the Lord said to him, “By what means?” And he said, “I will go forth and will be a false spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours.’ ”And in the second book of Paralipomenon, the same Micaiah says to Ahab and Jehoshaphat, “Hear the word of the Lord. I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and every power of heaven stood at his right and at his left. And the Lord said, ‘Who will deceive Ahab, king of Israel, and he will go up and fall in Ramoth-gilead?’ ” And he spoke in this manner. And a spirit came forth and stood before the Lord and said, “I will deceive him.” And the Lord said, “By what means?” And he said, “I will go forth and be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.” These words show clearly, then, that if any spirit is the lying spirit, all similar spirits would be lying spirits, indebted to their lying father for being lying spirits in accordance with their falsehood and evil, not because this belongs to their essence.
Commentary on the Gospel of John 20.257-62
21–22Perhaps someone says, “How can it happen that one who sins in his flesh by dissipation possesses the devil in his soul?” What we have said, dearly beloved, we will prove with evidence from sacred Scripture. Listen to the Scriptures saying that the proud person is filled with the devil: “Everyone who exalts his own heart is unclean in the sight of God,” and “All pride is the beginning of falling off from God.” What does it mean to fall from God, except to depart from him? Moreover, if a person is separated from God, he is necessarily united to the devil. Furthermore, Scripture says that the envious person cannot be without a devil: “By the envy of the devil, death came into the world, and they follow him that are of his side.” The canonical writings attest no less that the fornicator is also enslaved by the devil, for the prophet says, “You have been deceived by the spirit of fornication.” The fact that no liar can be without an evil spirit is evidenced by Scripture, too: “You will destroy all that speak a lie,” and again: “The mouth that belies kills the soul.” In the book of Kings we read that the evil spirit said to the Lord, “I will deceive Ahab.” And the Lord said to him, “By what means?” And he answered, “I will go forth and be a lying spirit in the mouth of his prophets.” And the Lord said, “You shall deceive him and shall prevail.” We should believe that the case is similar with all the other serious sins and offenses, because no one commits them without the devil’s prompting.
Sermon 79.2
21–22The “spirit” who “came forward and stood [before the Lord]” is an angel and not an evil spirit, namely, Satan, as certain [authors] suggest. In fact, why would an evil spirit stand before the Lord? On the contrary, this spirit is Michael, the leader of the people. It is he who says in his zeal, “I will entice him,” that is, “Allow me to leave and abandon the prophets of lies, instead of hindering them, as I have done many times, in order to stop and prevent their false prophecies. As a consequence, the destiny of Ahab will be according to what justice requires, because he will obey [his false prophets] with all his heart, if I do not prevent this.”
Books of Sessions 1 Kings 22:20
And the Lord said to him, Whereby? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt deceive him, yea, and shalt prevail: go forth, and do so.

And now, behold, the Lord has put a false spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil against thee.
καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ ἔδωκε Κύριος πνεῦμα ψευδὲς ἐν στόματι πάντων τῶν προφητῶν σου τούτων, καὶ Κύριος ἐλάλησεν ἐπὶ σὲ κακά.
и҆ сѐ, нн҃ѣ дадѐ гдⷭ҇ь дꙋ́хъ лжи́въ во ᲂу҆ста̀ всѣ́хъ прорѡ́къ твои́хъ си́хъ, и҆ гдⷭ҇ь гл҃а на тѧ̀ ѕла̑ѧ.
And Sedekias the son of Chanaan came near and smote Michaias on the cheek, and said, What sort of a spirit of the Lord [has] spoken in thee?
καὶ προσῆλθε Σεδεκίας υἱὸς Χανανὰ καὶ ἐπάταξε τὸν Μιχαίαν ἐπὶ τὴν σιαγόνα καὶ εἶπε· ποῖον πνεῦμα Κυρίου τὸ λαλῆσαν ἐν σοί;
И҆ пристꙋпѝ седекі́а сы́нъ ханаа́нь, и҆ поразѝ мїхе́ю въ лицѐ и҆ речѐ: каковы́й се́й пре́йде дх҃ъ гдⷭ҇ень ѿ менє̀, є҆́же глаго́лати въ тебѣ̀;
And Michaias said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an innermost chamber to hide thyself there.
καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· ἰδοὺ σὺ ὄψῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, ὅταν εἰσέλθῃς ταμιεῖον τοῦ ταμιείου τοῦ κρυβῆναι ἐκεῖ.
И҆ речѐ мїхе́а: сѐ, ты̀ ᲂу҆́зриши въ де́нь ѡ҆́нъ, є҆гда̀ вни́деши въ ло́жницꙋ сокро́вища твоегѡ̀, є҆́же скры́тисѧ тꙋ̀.
And the king of Israel said, Take Michaias, and convey him away to Semer the keeper of the city;
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραήλ· λάβετε τὸν Μιχαίαν καὶ ἀποστρέψατε αὐτὸν πρὸς Σεμὴρ τὸν βασιλέα τῆς πόλεως· καὶ τῷ ᾿Ιωὰς υἱῷ τοῦ βασιλέως
И҆ речѐ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ: поими́те мїхе́ю, и҆ возврати́те є҆го̀ ко а҆ммѡ́нꙋ кнѧ́зю гра́да и҆ ко і҆ѡа́сꙋ сы́нꙋ царе́вꙋ,
and tell Joas the king’s son to put this [fellow] in prison, and to feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction until I return in peace.
εἰπὸν θέσθαι τοῦτον ἐν φυλακῇ καὶ ἐσθίειν αὐτὸν ἄρτον θλίψεως καὶ ὕδωρ θλίψεως ἕως τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι με ἐν εἰρήνῃ.
и҆ рцы́те, да поса́дѧтъ є҆го̀ въ темни́цꙋ, и҆ да ко́рмѧтъ є҆го̀ хлѣ́бомъ печа́льнымъ и҆ водо́ю печа́льною, до́ндеже возвращꙋ́сѧ въ ми́рѣ.
And Michaias said, If thou return at all in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me.
καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· ἐὰν ἐπιστρέφων ἐπιστρέψῃς ἐν εἰρήνῃ, οὐ λελάληκε Κύριος ἐν ἐμοί.
И҆ речѐ мїхе́а: а҆́ще возвраща́ѧсѧ возврати́шисѧ въ ми́рѣ, то̀ не гл҃а гдⷭ҇ь мно́ю. И҆ речѐ: слы́шите, лю́дїе всѝ.
So the king of Israel went up, and Josaphat king of Juda with him to Remmath Galaad.
καὶ ἀνέβη βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ιούδα μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ.
И҆ взы́де ца́рь і҆и҃левъ и҆ і҆ѡсафа́тъ ца́рь і҆ꙋ́динъ съ ни́мъ въ ремма́ѳꙋ галаа́дскꙋю.
And the king of Israel said to Josaphat king of Juda, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle, and do thou put on my raiment. So the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ πρὸς ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλέα ᾿Ιούδα· συγκαλύψομαι καὶ εἰσελεύσομαι εἰς τὸν πόλεμον, καὶ σὺ ἔνδυσαι τὸν ἱματισμόν μου· καὶ συνεκαλύψατο βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν πόλεμον.
И҆ речѐ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ ко і҆ѡсафа́тꙋ царю̀ і҆ꙋ́динꙋ: прикры́й мѧ̀, и҆ вни́дꙋ въ сѣ́чь, и҆ ты̀ ѡ҆блецы́сѧ въ ри́зꙋ мою̀. И҆ прикры́сѧ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ и҆ вни́де въ сѣ́чь.
And the king of Syria had charged the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight not [against] small or great, but against the king of Israel only.
καὶ βασιλεὺς Συρίας ἐνετείλατο τοῖς ἄρχουσι τῶν ἁρμάτων αὐτοῦ τριάκοντα καὶ δυσὶ λέγων· μὴ πολεμεῖτε μικρὸν καὶ μέγαν, ἀλλ᾿ ἢ τὸν βασιλέα ᾿Ισραὴλ μονώτατον.
Ца́рь же сѵ́рскїй заповѣ́да кнѧзє́мъ колесни́цъ свои́хъ три́десѧтимъ и҆ двꙋ́мъ, глаго́лѧ: не бі́йтесѧ ни съ вели́кимъ ни съ ма́лымъ, но то́кмѡ съ царе́мъ і҆и҃левымъ є҆ди́нымъ.
And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Josaphat king of Juda, that they said, this seems [to be] the king of Israel. And they compassed him about to fight [against] him; and Josaphat cried out.
καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδον οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἁρμάτων τὸν ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλέα ᾿Ιούδα, καὶ αὐτοὶ εἶπαν· φαίνεται βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ οὗτος· καὶ ἐκύκλωσαν αὐτὸν πολεμῆσαι, καὶ ἀνέκραξεν ᾿Ιωσαφάτ.
И҆ бы́сть є҆гда̀ ᲂу҆зрѣ́ша воевѡ́ды колесни́цъ і҆ѡсафа́та царѧ̀ і҆ꙋ́дина, и҆ рѣ́ша: ви́дитсѧ ца́рь і҆и҃левъ се́й. И҆ ѡ҆бстꙋпи́ша є҆го̀ є҆́же срази́тисѧ съ ни́мъ: и҆ возопѝ і҆ѡсафа́тъ.
And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that this was not the king of Israel, that they returned from him.
καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδον οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἁρμάτων ὅτι οὐκ ἔστι βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ οὗτος, καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν ἀπ᾿ αὐτοῦ.
И҆ бы́сть є҆гда̀ ᲂу҆зрѣ́ша воевѡ́ды колесни́цъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ нѣ́сть ца́рь і҆и҃левъ то́й, и҆ возврати́шасѧ ѿ негѡ̀:
And one drew a bow with a good aim, and smote the king of Israel between the lungs and the breast-plate: and he said to his charioteer, Turn thine hands, and carry me away out of the battle, for I am wounded.
καὶ ἐπέτεινεν εἷς τὸ τόξον εὐστόχως καὶ ἐπάταξε τὸν βασιλέα ᾿Ισραὴλ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ πνεύμονος καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ θώρακος. καὶ εἶπε τῷ ἡνιόχῳ αὐτοῦ· ἐπίστρεψον τὰς χεῖράς σου καὶ ἐξάγαγέ με ἐκ τοῦ πολέμου, ὅτι τέτρωμαι.
и҆ налѧчѐ лꙋ́къ є҆ди́нъ мꙋ́жъ примѣ́тнѡ, и҆ поразѝ царѧ̀ і҆и҃лева междꙋ̀ ле́гкимъ и҆ щито́мъ. И҆ речѐ (ца́рь) вса́дникꙋ своемꙋ̀: ѡ҆братѝ рꙋ́ки твоѧ̑, и҆ и҆зведи́ мѧ ѿ бра́ни, ꙗ҆́кѡ ꙗ҆́звенъ є҆́смь.
And the war was turned in that day, and the king was standing on the chariot, against Syria from morning till evening; and he shed the blood out of his wound, into the bottom of the chariot, and died at even, and the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.
καὶ ἐτροπώθη ὁ πόλεμος ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς ἦν ἑστηκὼς ἐπὶ τοῦ ἅρματος ἐξεναντίας Συρίας ἀπὸ πρωΐ ἕως ἑσπέρας καὶ ἐπέχυνε τὸ αἷμα ἀπὸ τῆς πληγῆς εἰς τὸν κόλπον τοῦ ἅρματος· καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἑσπέρας, καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο τὸ αἷμα τῆς τροπῆς ἕως τοῦ κόλπου τοῦ ἅρματος.
И҆ ᲂу҆мно́жисѧ бра́нь въ то́й де́нь, и҆ ца́рь бѣ̀ стоѧ̀ на колесни́цѣ проти́вꙋ сѷрі́анъ ѿ ᲂу҆́тра да́же до ве́чера, и҆ лїѧ́шесѧ кро́вь и҆з̾ ꙗ҆́звы въ нѣ́дра колесни́цы, и҆ ᲂу҆́мре въ ве́черъ, и҆ и҆злива́шесѧ кро́вь ѿ ꙗ҆́звы да́же до нѣ́дръ колесни́цы.
And the herald of the army stood at sunset, saying, Let every man go to his own city and his own land,
καὶ ἔστη ὁ στρατοκήρυξ δύοντος τοῦ ἡλίου λέγων· ἕκαστος εἰς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ πόλιν καὶ εἰς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γῆν,
И҆ ста̀ проповѣ́дникъ ѡ҆ за́падѣ со́лнца, глаго́лѧ: кі́йждо ва́съ да и҆́детъ во сво́й гра́дъ и҆ во свою̀ зе́млю, ꙗ҆́кѡ ᲂу҆́мре ца́рь.
for the king is dead. And they came to Samaria, and buried the king in Samaria.
ὅτι τέθνηκεν ὁ βασιλεύς. καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Σαμάρειαν καὶ ἔθαψαν τὸν βασιλέα ἐν Σαμαρείᾳ.
И҆ прїидо́ша въ самарі́ю, и҆ погребо́ша въ самарі́и царѧ̀.
You see, not all the humiliations with which Elijah had threatened Ahab were accomplished, thanks to [the king’s] profound repentance, nor was Ahab’s corpse devoured by birds or wild beasts. Instead he was brought to the royal palace in Samaria, and there, after being celebrated with regal magnificence, was solemnly buried. Ahab died in that battle, which Micaiah had predicted to be fatal and deadly to him, even though he did not die on the battlefield but was taken away from there and survived for several hours, before he finally died in the evening. Therefore it seems clear that the dogs were not prevented from licking the blood that flowed on that day and night from his wound.
On the First Book of Kings 22:37
And they washed the chariot at the fountain of Samaria; and the swine and the dogs licked up the blood, and the harlots washed themselves in the blood, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke.
καὶ ἀπένιψαν τὸ αἷμα ἐπὶ τὴν κρήνην Σαμαρείας, καὶ ἐξέλειξαν αἱ ὕες καὶ οἱ κύνες τὸ αἷμα, καὶ αἱ πόρναι ἐλούσαντο ἐν τῷ αἵματι κατὰ τὸ ρῆμα Κυρίου, ὃ ἐλάλησε.
И҆ ѡ҆мы́ша кро́вь съ колесни́цы на и҆сто́чницѣ самарі́йстѣмъ, и҆ полиза́ша свинїи̑ и҆ псѝ кро́вь є҆гѡ̀, и҆ блꙋдни̑цы и҆змы́шасѧ въ кро́ви є҆гѡ̀, по гл҃ꙋ гдⷭ҇ню, є҆го́же гл҃а.
And the rest of the acts of Achaab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities which he built, behold, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν λόγων ᾿Αχαὰβ καὶ πάντα, ἃ ἐποίησε, καὶ οἶκον ἐλεφάντινον, ὃν ᾠκοδόμησε, καὶ πάσας τὰς πόλεις, ἃς ἐποίησεν, οὐκ ἰδοὺ ταῦτα γέγραπται ἐν βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν τῶν βασιλέων ᾿Ισραήλ;
Прѡ́чаѧ же слове́съ а҆хаа́влихъ, и҆ всѧ̑ ꙗ҆̀же сотворѝ, и҆ хра́мъ слоно́вый, є҆го́же созда̀, и҆ всѧ̑ гра́ды, ꙗ҆̀же сотворѝ, не се́ ли, сїѧ̑ пи̑сана бы́ша въ кни́зѣ слове́съ дні́й царе́й і҆и҃левыхъ;
And Achaab slept with his fathers, and Ochozias his son reigned in his stead.
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ᾿Αχαὰβ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ᾿Οχοζίας υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ.
И҆ ᲂу҆́спе а҆хаа́въ со ѻ҆тцы̑ свои́ми, и҆ воцари́сѧ ѻ҆хозі́а сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀ вмѣ́стѡ є҆гѡ̀.
And Josaphat the son of Asa reigned over Juda: in the fourth year of Achaab king of Israel began Josaphat to reign.
Καὶ ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ υἱὸς ᾿Ασὰ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ ᾿Ιούδαν· ἐν ἔτει τετάρτῳ τοῦ ᾿Αχαὰβ βασιλέως ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐβασίλευσεν ᾿Ιωσαφάτ.
И҆ і҆ѡсафа́тъ сы́нъ а҆́сы воцари́сѧ над̾ і҆ꙋ́дою въ четве́ртое лѣ́то а҆хаа́ва царѧ̀ і҆и҃лева.
Thirty and five years old [was he] when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name [was] Azuba daughter of Salai.
υἱὸς τριάκοντα καὶ πέντε ἐτῶν ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτόν, καὶ εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ, καὶ ὄνομα τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ ᾿Αζουβὰ θυγάτηρ Σαλαΐ.
І҆ѡсафа́тъ сы́нъ три́десѧти пѧтѝ лѣ́тъ (бѣ̀), є҆гда̀ нача̀ ца́рствовати, и҆ два́десѧть пѧ́ть лѣ́тъ ца́рствова во і҆ерⷭ҇ли́мѣ. И҆́мѧ же ма́тери є҆гѡ̀ а҆зꙋва̀, дщѝ салаі́лѧ.
And he walked in all the way of Asa his father: he turned not from it, even from doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord.
καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐν πάσῃ ὁδῷ ᾿Ασὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ· οὐκ ἐξέκλινεν ἀπ᾿ αὐτῆς τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ εὐθὲς ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς Κυρίου·
И҆ хожда́ше по всѣ̑мъ пꙋтє́мъ а҆́сы ѻ҆тца̀ своегѡ̀, не ᲂу҆клони́сѧ ѿ негѡ̀, творѧ̀ пра́вое пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма гдⷭ҇нима, то́кмѡ высо́кихъ не разорѝ: є҆щѐ лю́дїе жрѧ́хꙋ и҆ кадѧ́хꙋ на высо́кихъ.
Only he took not away [any] of the high places: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places.
πλὴν τῶν ὑψηλῶν οὐκ ἐξῇρεν, ἔτι ὁ λαὸς ἐθυσίαζε καὶ ἐθυμίων ἐν τοῖς ὑψηλοῖς.
И҆ ᲂу҆мири́сѧ і҆ѡсафа́тъ съ царе́мъ і҆и҃левымъ.
And Josaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.
καὶ εἰρήνευσεν ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ μετὰ βασιλέως ᾿Ισραήλ.
Прѡ́чаѧ же слове́съ і҆ѡсафа́товыхъ, и҆ си̑лы є҆гѡ̀, є҆ли̑ка сотворѝ, не се́ ли, пи̑сана сꙋ́ть въ кни́зѣ слове́съ дні́й царе́й і҆ꙋ́диныхъ;
And the rest of the acts of Josaphat, and his mighty deeds, whatever he did, behold, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda? *
καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν λόγων ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ καὶ αἱ δυναστεῖαι αὐτοῦ, ὅσα ἐποίησεν οὐκ ἰδοὺ ταῦτα γεγραμμένα ἐν βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν βασιλέων ᾿Ιούδα;*
И҆ про́чее ме́рзости, є҆́же ѡ҆ста́сѧ во дни̑ а҆́сы ѻ҆тца̀ є҆гѡ̀, ѿѧ̀ ѿ землѝ.
And Josaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried by his fathers in the city of David his father, and Joram his son reigned in his stead.
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐτάφη παρὰ τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτοῦ ἐν πόλει Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ᾿Ιωρὰμ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ.
И҆ ѻ҆хозі́а сы́нъ а҆хаа́вовъ воцари́сѧ над̾ і҆и҃лемъ въ самарі́и, въ лѣ́то седмоена́десѧть і҆ѡсафа́та царѧ̀ і҆ꙋ́дина, и҆ ца́рствова над̾ і҆и҃лемъ въ самарі́и лѣ̑та два̀,
And Ochozias son of Achaab reigned over Israel in Samaria: in the seventeenth year of Josaphat king of Juda, Ochozias son of Achaab reigned over Israel in Samaria two years.
Καὶ ᾿Οχοζίας υἱὸς ᾿Αχαὰβ ἐβασίλευεν ἐπὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν Σαμαρείᾳ ἐν ἔτει ἑπτακαιδεκάτῳ ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλέως ᾿Ιούδα· καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν Σαμαρείᾳ δύο ἔτη.
и҆ сотворѝ лꙋка́вое пред̾ гдⷭ҇емъ, и҆ нача̀ ходи́ти по пꙋтє́мъ ѻ҆тца̀ своегѡ̀ а҆хаа́ва и҆ по пꙋтѝ і҆езаве́ли ма́тере своеѧ̀, и҆ во грѣсѣ́хъ до́мꙋ і҆еровоа́ма сы́на нава́това, и҆́же введѐ во грѣ́хъ і҆и҃лѧ:
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Achaab his father, and in the way of Jezabel his mother, and in the sins of the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who caused Israel to sin.
καὶ ἐποίησε τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον Κυρίου καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδῷ ᾿Αχαὰβ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν ὁδῷ ᾿Ιεζάβελ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις οἴκου ῾Ιεροβοὰμ υἱοῦ Ναβάτ, ὃς ἐξήμαρτε τὸν ᾿Ισραήλ.
и҆ порабо́та ваа́лꙋ, и҆ поклони́сѧ є҆мꙋ̀, и҆ разгнѣ́ва гдⷭ҇а бг҃а і҆и҃лева, по всѣ̑мъ бы́вшымъ пре́жде є҆гѡ̀.
And he served Baalim, and worshipped them, and provoked the Lord God of Israel, according to all that had been done before him. ___________ *
καὶ ἐδούλευσε τοῖς Βααλὶμ καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτοῖς καὶ παρώργισε τὸν Κύριον Θεὸν ᾿Ισραήλ, κατὰ πάντα τὰ γενόμενα ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ. ________ *
And the rest of the sodomites left remaining in the days of Asa his father he chose [to remove] out of the land.
Καὶ περισσὸν τοῦ ἐνδιηλλαγμένου, ὃ ὑπελείφθη ἐν ἡμέραις ᾿Ασὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, ἐπέλεξεν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς.
И҆ царѧ̀ не бѣ̀ во є҆дѡ́мѣ поста́вленнагѡ.
And no king stood in Edom. And king
καὶ βασιλεὺς οὐκ ἦν ἐν ᾿Εδὼμ ἐστηλωμένος. καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς
Ца́рь же і҆ѡсафа́тъ сотворѝ корабли̑ ѳарсі̑йскїѧ, є҆́же и҆тѝ во ѡ҆фі́ръ по зла́то, но не поидо́ша, занѐ сокрꙋши́шасѧ корабли̑ во а҆сеѡ́нъ-гаве́рѣ.
Josaphat prepared ships to go to Tharsis [and] to go to Opherde for gold, and they did not go, for the ships were shattered in Aseon Gaber.
᾿Ιωσαφὰτ ἐποίησε νῆας εἰς Θαρσὶς τοῦ πορευθῆναι ᾿Ωφέρδε εἰς χρυσίον, καὶ οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν, ὅτι συνετρίβησαν νῆες ἐν ᾿Ασεὼν Γαβέρ.
Тогда̀ речѐ ѻ҆хозі́а сы́нъ а҆хаа́вль ко і҆ѡсафа́тꙋ: да и҆́дꙋтъ рабѝ моѝ съ рабы̑ твои́ми въ корабле́хъ. И҆ не восхотѣ̀ і҆ѡсафа́тъ.
Then Ochozias son of Achaab said to Josaphat, Let my servants go with your servants in the ships. But Josaphat would not.
τότε εἶπε ᾿Οχοζίας υἱὸς ᾿Αχαὰβ πρὸς ᾿Ιωσαφάτ· πορευθήτωσαν δοῦλοί μου μετὰ τῶν δούλων σου ταῖς ναυσί· καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν ᾿Ιωσαφάτ.
И҆ ᲂу҆́мре і҆ѡсафа́тъ со ѻ҆тцы̑ свои́ми, и҆ погребе́нъ бы́сть ᲂу҆ ѻ҆тє́цъ свои́хъ во гра́дѣ даві́да ѻ҆тца̀ своегѡ̀. И҆ воцари́сѧ і҆ѡра́мъ сы́нъ є҆гѡ̀ вмѣ́стѡ є҆гѡ̀.
And the king of Israel said to Josaphat, There is one man here [for us] to enquire of the Lord by; but I hate him, for he does not speak good of me, but only evil; Michaias son of Jemblaa. And Josaphat king of Juda said, Let not the king say so.
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ πρὸς ᾿Ιωσαφάτ· εἷς ἐστιν ἀνὴρ εἰς τὸ ἐπερωτῆσαι δι᾿ αὐτοῦ τὸν Κύριον, καὶ ἐγὼ μεμίσηκα αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐ λαλεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ καλά, ἀλλ᾿ ἢ κακά, Μιχαίας υἱὸς ᾿Ιεμβλαά. καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ιούδα· μὴ λεγέτω ὁ βασιλεὺς οὕτως.
