Composite 2 - Proverbs 10, 3, 8 § 177

The memory of a just man is praised, and the Lord’s blessing is upon his head. Blessed is one who has found wisdom; a mortal who knows understanding. To import her is better than treasures of gold and silver. She is more valuable than precious stones; nothing of value equals her worth. Justice proceeds from her mouth; she bears law and mercy on her tongue. Therefore, my children, listen to me, for I speak weighty things. And blessed is the one who keeps my ways. For my goings out are the goings out of life, and favour is prepared from the Lord. Therefore I exhort you, and utter my voice to the children of humankind. Because I, Wisdom, have prepared counsel, knowledge and understanding. I have called on them. Counsel and sureness are mine; prudence is mine, strength is mine. I love those who are my friends, while those who seek me will find grace. You innocent, then, understand cunning; you untaught, take it to heart. Listen to me, for I will speak weighty things, and I will open right things from my lips. Because my throat will meditate truth; lying lips are abominable before me. All the words of my mouth are with justice, there is nothing crooked in them nor twisted. They are all straight for those who understand, and right for those who find knowledge. For I teach you what is true, that your hope may be in the Lord and that you may be filled with spirit.

Composite 4 - Proverbs 10; Wisdom of Solomon 6, 7, 8, 9 § 179

The mouth of a just man distils wisdom; the lips of men know graces. The mouth of the wise meditates wisdom; justice delivers them from death. When a just man dies hope is not lost; for a just son is born for life, and among his good things he will pluck the fruit of justice. There is light at all times for the just, and they will find grace and glory from the Lord. The tongue of the wise knows what is good, and wisdom will take its rest in their hearts. The Lord loves holy hearts; while all who are blameless in the way are acceptable to him. The wisdom of the Lord will enlighten the face of the understanding; for she anticipates those who desire her before they know it, and is easily contemplated by those who love her. One who rises for her at dawn will not toil, and one who keeps vigil because of her will be without care. For she goes about seeking those who are worthy of her, and shows herself favourably to those on her paths. Wickedness will never prevail against wisdom. Because of this I too became a lover of her beauty and became her friend, and I sought her out from my youth, and I sought to take her as my bride, because the Master of all things loved her, for she is an initiate of the knowledge of God and one who chooses his works. Her toils are virtues; she herself teaches sobriety and prudence; justice and courage, than which things nothing is more useful in human life. If anyone longs for much experience, she knows how to compare things of old and those that are to come. She knows the twists of words and the explanations of riddles. She foresees signs and wonders and the outcomes of seasons and times. And to all she is a good counsellor. Because immortality is in her, and fame in the fellowship of her words. Therefore I appealed to the Lord and besought him and said from my whole heart, ‘God of my Fathers and Lord of mercy, who made all things by your Word, and established humanity by your Wisdom to be sovereign over the creatures that had come into being by you, and to order the world in holiness and justice, give me Wisdom who sits by your throne, and do not reject me from among your children, for I am your servant and the son of your maid servant. Send her out from your holy dwelling and from the throne of your glory, that she may be present with me and teach me what is well pleasing before you. And she will guide me with knowledge and guard me with her glory. For all the thoughts of mortals are wretched and their ideas are unstable.’

But though the righteous be prevented with death, yet shall he be in rest.

For honourable age is not that which standeth in length of time, nor that is measured by number of years.

But wisdom is the gray hair unto men, and an unspotted life is old age.

He pleased God, and was beloved of him: so that living among sinners he was translated.

Yea speedily was he taken away, lest that wickedness should alter his understanding, or deceit beguile his soul.

ἡρπάγη, μὴ κακία ἀλλάξῃ σύνεσιν αὐτοῦ ἢ δόλος ἀπατήσῃ ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ·

For the bewitching of naughtiness doth obscure things that are honest; and the wandering of concupiscence doth undermine the simple mind.

βασκανία γὰρ φαυλότητος ἀμαυροῖ τὰ καλά, καὶ ρεμβασμὸς ἐπιθυμίας μεταλλεύει νοῦν ἄκακον.

He, being made perfect in a short time, fulfilled a long time:

For his soul pleased the Lord: therefore hasted he to take him away from among the wicked.

This the people saw, and understood it not, neither laid they up this in their minds, That his grace and mercy is with his saints, and that he hath respect unto his chosen.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Their proclamation has gone out into all the earth / and their words to the ends of the universe!

Verse: The heavens are telling the Glory of God, and the firmament proclaims His handiwork!

My Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the Name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. And he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Verse: What shall I render to the Lord for all His bounty to me?

Brethren, Obey those who rule over you, and submit yourselves, for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honestly. But I beseech you rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. Now may the God of peace, that brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the Blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing iri His sight, through Jesus Christ; to Whom be glory for ever and ever. And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθετε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων συλλαβεῖν με·

И҆ ѿвѣща́въ і҆и҃съ речѐ и҆̀мъ: ꙗ҆́кѡ на разбо́йника ли и҆зыдо́сте со ѻ҆рꙋ́жїемъ и҆ дреко́льми ꙗ҆́ти мѧ̀;

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

καθ᾿ ἡμέραν πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἤμην ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων, καὶ οὐκ ἐκρατήσατέ με. ἀλλ᾿ ἵνα πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαί.

And they all forsook him, and fled.

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

καὶ εἷς τις νεανίσκος ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ, περιβεβλημένος σινδόνα ἐπὶ γυμνοῦ· καὶ κρατοῦσιν αὐτὸν οἱ νεανίσκοι.

И҆ є҆ди́нъ нѣ́кто ю҆́ноша и҆́де по не́мъ, ѡ҆дѣ́ѧнъ въ плащани́цꙋ по на́гꙋ: и҆ ꙗ҆́ша того̀ ю҆́ношꙋ.

And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

ὁ δὲ καταλιπὼν τὴν σινδόνα γυμνὸς ἔφυγεν ἀπ᾿ αὐτῶν.

Ѻ҆́нъ же ѡ҆ста́вль плащани́цꙋ, на́гъ бѣжа̀ ѿ ни́хъ.

And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

Καὶ ἀπήγαγον τὸν Ἰησοῦν πρὸς τὸν ἀρχιερέα καὶ συνέρχονται αὐτῷ πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς.

И҆ ведо́ша і҆и҃са ко а҆рхїере́ю: и҆ снидо́шасѧ къ немꙋ̀ всѝ а҆рхїере́є и҆ кни́жницы и҆ ста́рцы.

And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

καὶ ὁ Πέτρος ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ ἕως ἔσω εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως, καὶ ἦν συγκαθήμενος μετὰ τῶν ὑπηρετῶν καὶ θερμαινόμενος πρὸς τὸ φῶς.

И҆ пе́тръ и҆здале́ча в̾слѣ́дъ є҆гѡ̀ и҆́де до внꙋ́трь во дво́ръ а҆рхїере́овъ: и҆ бѣ̀ сѣдѧ̀ со слꙋга́ми и҆ грѣ́ѧсѧ при свѣщѝ {при ѻ҆гнѝ}.

And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον ἐζήτουν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ μαρτυρίαν εἰς τὸ θανατῶσαι αὐτόν, καὶ οὐχ εὕρισκον·

А҆рхїере́є же и҆ ве́сь со́нмъ и҆ска́хꙋ на і҆и҃са свидѣ́тельства, да ᲂу҆мертвѧ́тъ є҆го̀: и҆ не ѡ҆брѣта́хꙋ.

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

πολλοὶ γὰρ ἐψευδομαρτύρουν κατ᾿ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἴσαι αἱ μαρτυρίαι οὐκ ἦσαν.

Мно́зи бо лжесвидѣ́тельствовахꙋ на него̀, и҆ ра̑вна свидѣ́тєльства не бѧ́хꙋ.

And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

καί τινες ἀναστάντες ἐψευδομαρτύρουν κατ᾿ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες

И҆ нѣ́цыи воста́вше лжесвидѣ́тельствовахꙋ на него̀, глаго́люще:

58

We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

ὅτι ἡμεῖς ἠκούσαμεν αὐτοῦ λέγοντος, ὅτι ἐγὼ καταλύσω τὸν ναὸν τοῦτον τὸν χειροποίητον καὶ διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν ἄλλον ἀχειροποίητον οἰκοδομήσω.

ꙗ҆́кѡ мы̀ слы́шахомъ є҆го̀ гл҃юща, ꙗ҆́кѡ а҆́зъ разорю̀ це́рковь сїю̀ рꙋкотворе́нꙋю и҆ тремѝ де́ньми и҆́нꙋ нерꙋкотворе́нꙋ сози́ждꙋ.

But neither so did their witness agree together.

καὶ οὐδὲ οὕτως ἴση ἦν ἡ μαρτυρία αὐτῶν.

И҆ ни та́кѡ ра́вно бѣ̀ свидѣ́тельство и҆́хъ.

60

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἰς τὸ μέσον ἐπηρώτα τὸν Ἰησοῦν λέγων· οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδέν; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;

И҆ воста́въ а҆рхїере́й посредѣ̀, вопросѝ і҆и҃са, глаго́лѧ: не ѿвѣщава́еши ли ничесѡ́же; что̀ сі́и на тѧ̀ свидѣ́тельствꙋютъ;

But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

ὁ δὲ ἐσιώπα καὶ οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο. πάλιν ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς ἐπηρώτα αὐτὸν καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ εὐλογητοῦ;

Ѻ҆́нъ же молча́ше и҆ ничто́же ѿвѣщава́ше. Па́ки а҆рхїере́й вопросѝ є҆го̀ и҆ глаго́ла є҆мꙋ̀: ты́ ли є҆сѝ хрⷭ҇то́съ, сн҃ъ блгⷭ҇ве́ннагѡ;

And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· ἐγώ εἰμι· καὶ ὄψεσθε τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ δεξιῶν καθήμενον τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ ἐρχόμενον ἐπὶ τῶν νεφελῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.

І҆и҃съ же речѐ: а҆́зъ є҆́смь: и҆ ᲂу҆́зрите сн҃а чл҃вѣ́ческаго ѡ҆деснꙋ́ю сѣдѧ́ща си́лы и҆ грѧдꙋ́ща со ѡ҆́блаки небе́сными.

Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

ὁ δὲ ἀρχιερεὺς διαρρήξας τοὺς χιτῶνας αὐτοῦ λέγει· τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτύρων;

А҆рхїере́й же растерза́въ ри̑зы своѧ̑, глаго́ла: что̀ є҆щѐ тре́бꙋемъ свидѣ́телей;

Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

ἠκούσατε πάντως τῆς βλασφημίας· τί ὑμῖν φαίνεται; οἱ δὲ πάντες κατέκριναν αὐτὸν εἶναι ἔνοχον θανάτου.

слы́шасте хꙋлꙋ̀: что̀ ва́мъ мни́тсѧ; Ѻ҆ни́ же всѝ ѡ҆сꙋди́ша є҆го̀ бы́ти пови́нна сме́рти.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

καὶ ἤρξαντό τινες ἐμπτύειν αὐτῷ καὶ περικαλύπτειν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ κολαφίζειν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγειν αὐτῷ· προφήτευσον ἡμῖν τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σε. καὶ οἱ ὑπηρέται ραπίσμασιν αὐτὸν ἔβαλον.

И҆ нача́ша нѣ́цыи плюва́ти на́нь, и҆ прикрыва́ти лицѐ є҆гѡ̀, и҆ мꙋ́чити є҆го̀, и҆ глаго́лати є҆мꙋ̀: прорцы̀. И҆ слꙋги̑ по лани́тома є҆го̀ бїѧ́хꙋ.

And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

Καὶ ὄντος τοῦ Πέτρου κάτω ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ ἔρχεται μία τῶν παιδισκῶν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως,

И҆ сꙋ́щꙋ петро́ви во дворѣ̀ ни́зꙋ, прїи́де є҆ди́на ѿ рабы́нь а҆рхїере́овыхъ,

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

καὶ ἰδοῦσα τὸν Πέτρον θερμαινόμενον ἐμβλέψασα αὐτῷ λέγει· καὶ σὺ μετὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ναζαρηνοῦ ἦσθα.

и҆ ви́дѣвши петра̀ грѣ́ющасѧ, воззрѣ́вши на него̀, глаго́ла: и҆ ты̀ съ назарѧни́номъ і҆и҃сомъ бы́лъ є҆сѝ.

But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

ὁ δὲ ἠρνήσατο λέγων· οὐκ οἶδα οὐδὲ ἐπίσταμαι τί σὺ λέγεις. καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω εἰς τὸ προαύλιον, καὶ ἀλέκτωρ ἐφώνησε.

Ѻ҆́нъ же ѿве́ржесѧ, глаго́лѧ: не вѣ́мъ, нижѐ зна́ю, что̀ ты̀ глаго́леши. И҆ и҆зы́де во́нъ на преддво́рїе: и҆ а҆ле́ктѡръ возгласѝ.

And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

καὶ ἡ παιδίσκη ἰδοῦσα αὐτὸν πάλιν ἤρξατο λέγειν τοῖς παρεστηκόσιν ὅτι οὗτος ἐξ αὐτῶν ἐστιν.

И҆ рабы́нѧ ви́дѣвши є҆го̀ па́ки, нача́тъ глаго́лати предстоѧ́щымъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ се́й ѿ ни́хъ є҆́сть.

And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

ὁ δὲ πάλιν ἠρνεῖτο. καὶ μετὰ μικρὸν πάλιν οἱ παρεστῶτες ἔλεγον τῷ Πέτρῳ· ἀληθῶς ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶ· καὶ γὰρ Γαλιλαῖος εἶ καὶ ἡ λαλιά σου ὁμοιάζει.

Ѻ҆́нъ же па́ки ѿмета́шесѧ. И҆ пома́лѣ па́ки предстоѧ́щїи глаго́лахꙋ петро́ви: вои́стиннꙋ ѿ ни́хъ є҆сѝ: и҆́бо галїле́анинъ є҆сѝ, и҆ бесѣ́да твоѧ̀ подо́битсѧ.

But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

ὁ δὲ ἤρξατο ἀναθεματίζειν καὶ ὀμνύναι ὅτι οὐκ οἶδα τὸν ἄνθρωπον τοῦτον ὃν λέγετε. καὶ ἐκ δευτέρου ἀλέκτωρ ἐφώνησε.

Ѻ҆́нъ же нача̀ роти́тисѧ и҆ клѧ́тисѧ, ꙗ҆́кѡ не вѣ́мъ чл҃вѣ́ка сегѡ̀, є҆го́же вы̀ глаго́лете.

And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

καὶ ἀνεμνήσθη ὁ Πέτρος τὸ ρῆμα ὃ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι δίς, ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς· καὶ ἐπιβαλὼν ἔκλαιε.

Chapter 15

1

AND straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

Καὶ εὐθέως ἐπὶ τὸ πρωῒ συμβούλιον ποιήσαντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς μετὰ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον, δήσαντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπήνεγκαν καὶ παρέδωκαν τῷ Πιλάτῳ.

And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;

καὶ καταβὰς μετ᾿ αὐτῶν ἔστη ἐπὶ τόπου πεδινοῦ, καὶ ὄχλος μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ, καὶ πλῆθος πολὺ τοῦ λαοῦ ἀπὸ πάσης τῆς Ἰουδαίας καὶ Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ τῆς παραλίου Τύρου καὶ Σιδῶνος, οἳ ἦλθον ἀκοῦσαι αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰαθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν νόσων αὐτῶν,

And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.

и҆̀же прїидо́ша послꙋ́шати є҆гѡ̀ и҆ и҆сцѣли́тисѧ ѿ недꙋ̑гъ свои́хъ, и҆ стра́ждꙋщїи ѿ дꙋ̑хъ нечи́стыхъ: и҆ и҆сцѣлѧ́хꙋсѧ.

And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος ἐζήτει ἅπτεσθαι αὐτοῦ, ὅτι δύναμις παρ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἐξήρχετο καὶ ἰᾶτο πάντας.

И҆ ве́сь наро́дъ и҆ска́ше прикаса́тисѧ є҆мꙋ̀: ꙗ҆́кѡ си́ла ѿ негѡ̀ и҆схожда́ше и҆ и҆сцѣлѧ́ше всѧ̑.

And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ εἰς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἔλεγε· μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοί, ὅτι ὑμετέρα ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ.

Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες νῦν, ὅτι χορτασθήσεσθε. μακάριοι οἱ κλαίοντες νῦν, ὅτι γελάσετε.

Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

μακάριοί ἐστε ὅταν μισήσωσιν ὑμᾶς οἱ ἄνθρωποι, καὶ ὅταν ἀφορίσωσιν ὑμᾶς καὶ ὀνειδίσωσι καὶ ἐκβάλωσι τὸ ὄνομα ὑμῶν ὡς πονηρὸν ἕνεκα τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.
