Acts 19:1–8 § 42 (Forerunner)

Forerunner

Prokeimenon, Tone 7

The righteous one shall rejoice in the Lord / and shall set his hope on Him

Verse: Hear my voice, O God, when I pray unto Thee!

In those days, it came to pass that while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said unto them, “Have you receive the Holy Spirit since you believed?” And they said unto him, “We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Spirit.” And he said unto them, “Unto what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Unto the baptism of John.” Then said Paul, “John truly baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Now the men were about twelve in all. And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the Kingdom of God.

Alleluia, Tone 5

Light dawns for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart

Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His Holiness!

Communion Hymn

The grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men. And also: The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not fear evil tidings.

Hebrews § 333
Prokeimenon, Tone 3

The Lord is my Light and my Salvation / whom, then, shall I fear?

Verse: The Lord is the Defender of my life! Of whom shall I be afraid?

See that you do not refuse Him that speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven...” And this word, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Alleluia, Tone 5

The Lord is King, He is robed in majesty!

Verse: For He has established the world so that it shall never be moved!

Communion Hymn

From the mouths of babes and infants Thou hast founded praise!

29

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

31

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

32

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

Mark 10.2-12 § 43
2

And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.

3

And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· τί ὑμῖν ἐνετείλατο Μωϋσῆς;

Ѻ҆́нъ же ѿвѣща́въ речѐ и҆̀мъ: что̀ ва́мъ заповѣ́да мѡѷсе́й;

4

And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

5

And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.

6

But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

7

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

8

And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

9

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

10

And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.

11

And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

12

And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
