Titus § 302 (Theophany)

Theophany

Prokeimenon, Tone 8

Their proclamation has gone out into all the earth and their words to the ends of the universe!

Verse: The heavens are telling the Glory of God, and the firmament proclaims His handiwork!

the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us all iniquity, and purify unto Himself His own people, zealous of good works... Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you... Remind them to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no man, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another... But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, Whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Alleluia, Tone 1

The heavens shall confess Thy wonders, O Lord

Verse: God is glorified in the council of the Saints!

Communion Hymn

Their proclamation has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the universe! And also of the Until the Leavetaking.

Hebrews 8:7–13 § 319

Brethren, if the first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. . For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord, I will put My laws in their mind and write them in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord:’ for all shall know Me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and thenlawless deeds will I remember no more.” For in that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first one obsolete. Now that which decays and grows old is ready to vanish away.

Matthew 3.13-17 § 6 (Theophany)

Theophany

13

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14

But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

ὁ δὲ Ἰωάννης διεκώλυεν αὐτὸν λέγων· ἐγὼ χρείαν ἔχω ὑπὸ σοῦ βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ σὺ ἔρχῃ πρός με;

І҆ѡа́ннъ же возбранѧ́ше є҆мꙋ̀, глаго́лѧ: а҆́зъ тре́бꙋю тобо́ю крⷭ҇ти́тисѧ, и҆ ты́ ли грѧде́ши ко мнѣ̀;

15

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mark 8.11-21 § 33
11

And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

12

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

13

And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

14

Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

15

And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

16

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

17

And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

καὶ γνοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγει αὐτοῖς· τί διαλογίζεσθε ὅτι ἄρτους οὐκ ἔχετε; οὔπω νοεῖτε οὐδὲ συνίετε; ἔτι πεπωρωμένην ἔχετε τὴν καρδίαν ὑμῶν;

И҆ разꙋмѣ́въ і҆и҃съ, гл҃а и҆̀мъ: что̀ помышлѧ́ете, ꙗ҆́кѡ хлѣ́бы не и҆́мате; не ᲂу҆̀ ли чꙋ́вствꙋете, нижѐ разꙋмѣ́ете; є҆ще́ ли ѡ҆камене́но се́рдце ва́ше и҆́мате;

18

Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντες οὐ βλέπετε, καὶ ὦτα ἔχοντες οὐκ ἀκούετε; καὶ οὐ μνημονεύετε;

19

When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

20

And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

21

And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· οὔπω συνίετε;

И҆ гл҃а и҆̀мъ: ка́кѡ не разꙋмѣ́ете;
