Philippians 1:8–14 § 236

Philippians 1:8–14 § 236

Brethren, God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God… But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the Gospel, so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear…

Galatians 5:22–6:2 § 213 (St John of Rila)

Galatians 5:22–6:2 (St John of Rila) § 213

St John of Rila

Brethren, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another… Brethren, if a man is overtaken in a fault, you who are spiritual restore, such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted… Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ…

Luke 9.23-27 § 44

Luke 9.23-27 § 44

23

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

24

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

25

For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὅλον, ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς;

Что́ бо по́льзы и҆́мать человѣ́къ, приѡбрѣ́тъ мі́ръ ве́сь, себе́ же погꙋби́въ и҆лѝ ѡ҆тщети́въ;

26

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

27

But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
