2 Corinthians 12:10–19 § 195

Brethren, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. I have become a fool in boasting; you have compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you; for in nothing was I behind the most eminent Apostles, though I am nothing. Truly the signs of an Apostle were accomplished among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. For what is it in which you were inferior to other Churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? Forgive me this wrong! Behold, for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be burdensome to you; for I do not seek yours, but you. For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved. But be that as it may, I did not burden you. Nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile! Did I take advantage of you by any of those whom I sent to you? I urged Titus, and sent our brother with him. Did Titus take advantage of you? Did we not walk in the same spirit? Did we not walk in the same steps? Again, do you think that we excuse ourselves unto you? We speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, beloved, for your edification [and confirmation].

Philippians 2:5–11 § 240 (Theotokos)

Theotokos

Prokeimenon, Tone 3

(Song of the Theotokos): My soul magnifies the Lord / and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

Verse: For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden, for behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed

Brethren, let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the Cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the Name which is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, andf things on earth, and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Alleluia, Tone 8

Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thine ear

Verse: The rich among the people shall pray before thy face

Mark 4.10-23 § 16
10

And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

11

And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

12

That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

13

And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην, καὶ πῶς πάσας τὰς παραβολὰς γνώσεσθε;

И҆ гл҃а и҆̀мъ: не вѣ́сте ли при́тчи сеѧ̀; и҆ ка́кѡ всѧ̑ при̑тчи ᲂу҆разꙋмѣ́ете;

14

The sower soweth the word.

15

And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

16

And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

17

And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

18

And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

19

And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

20

And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

21

And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· μήτι ἔρχεται ὁ λύχνος ἵνα ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον τεθῇ ἢ ὑπὸ τὴν κλίνην; οὐχ ἵνα ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν ἐπιτεθῇ;

И҆ гл҃аше и҆̀мъ: є҆да̀ свѣти́льникъ прихо́дитъ {вжига́ютъ}, да под̾ спꙋ́домъ положа́тъ є҆го̀ и҆лѝ под̾ ѻ҆дро́мъ; не да ли на свѣ́щницѣ положе́нъ бꙋ́детъ;

22

For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

23

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

Luke 10.38-42, 11.27-28 § 54|58 (Theotokos)

Theotokos

Chapter 10

38

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

39

And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.

40

But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Chapter 11

27

And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28

But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
