Philippians 1:12–20 § 237
Brethren, I want you to know that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the Gospel, so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear… Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from good will: The one preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the other out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the Gospel. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice. For I know that this will turn out for my salvation through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope …
Galatians 1:11–19 (St James) § 200
St James
Brethren, I make known to you that the Gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, neither was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former conduct in the religion of the Jews, how I persecuted the Church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. And I advanced in the religion of the Jews beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb and called me by His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, neither did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were Apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him for fifteen days. But I saw none of the other Apostles except for James, the brother of the Lord …
Luke 11.9-13
§ 56
Luke 11.9-13 § 56
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
τίνα δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν τὸν πατέρα αἰτήσει ὁ υἱὸς ἄρτον, μὴ λίθον ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ; ἢ καὶ ἰχθύν, μὴ ἀντὶ ἰχθύος ὄφιν ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;
Кото́рагѡ же ва́съ ѻ҆тца̀ воспро́ситъ сы́нъ хлѣ́ба, є҆да̀ ка́мень пода́стъ є҆мꙋ̀; и҆лѝ ры́бы, є҆да̀ въ ры́бы мѣ́сто ѕмїю̀ пода́стъ є҆мꙋ̀;
Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
ἢ καὶ ἐὰν αἰτήσῃ ᾠόν, μὴ ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ σκορπίον;
и҆лѝ а҆́ще попро́ситъ ꙗ҆ица̀, є҆да̀ пода́стъ є҆мꙋ̀ скорпі́ю;
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
εἰ οὖν ὑμεῖς, ὑπάρχοντες πονηροί, οἴδατε δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὁ πατὴρ ὁ ἐξ οὐρανοῦ δώσει πνεῦμα ἀγαθὸν τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν;
А҆́ще ᲂу҆̀бо вы̀ ѕлѝ сꙋ́ще, ᲂу҆мѣ́ете даѧ̑нїѧ бла̑га даѧ́ти ча́дѡмъ ва́шымъ, кольмѝ па́че ѻ҆ц҃ъ, и҆́же съ нб҃сѐ, да́стъ дх҃а ст҃а́го просѧ́щымъ ᲂу҆ негѡ̀;
Matthew 13.54-58 (St James) § 56
St James
And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
καὶ ἐλθὼν εἰς τὴν πατρίδα αὐτοῦ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ αὐτῶν, ὥστε ἐκπλήττεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ λέγειν· πόθεν τούτῳ ἡ σοφία αὕτη καὶ αἱ δυνάμεις;
И҆ прише́дъ во ѻ҆те́чествїе своѐ, ᲂу҆ча́ше и҆̀хъ на со́нмищи и҆́хъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ диви́тисѧ и҆̀мъ и҆ глаго́лати: ѿкꙋ́дꙋ семꙋ̀ премⷣрость сїѧ̀ и҆ си̑лы;
Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τοῦ τέκτονος υἱός; οὐχὶ ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ λέγεται Μαριὰμ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωσῆς καὶ Σίμων καὶ Ἰούδας;
не се́й ли є҆́сть текто́новъ сн҃ъ; не мт҃и ли є҆гѡ̀ нарица́етсѧ мр҃їа́мъ, и҆ бра́тїѧ є҆гѡ̀ і҆а́кѡвъ и҆ і҆ѡсі́й, и҆ сі́мѡнъ и҆ і҆ꙋ́да;
And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
καὶ αἱ ἀδελφαὶ αὐτοῦ οὐχὶ πᾶσαι πρὸς ἡμᾶς εἰσι; πόθεν οὖν τούτῳ ταῦτα πάντα;
и҆ сєстры̀ є҆гѡ̀ не всѧ̑ ли въ на́съ сꙋ́ть; ѿкꙋ́дꙋ ᲂу҆̀бо семꙋ̀ сїѧ̑ всѧ̑;
And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Prokeimena
My soul magnifies the Lord / and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
VFor He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden, for behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Their proclamation has gone out into all the earth / and their words to the ends of the universe!
VThe heavens are telling the Glory of God, and the firmament proclaims His handiwork!
Alleluia
Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thine ear.
VThe rich among the people shall pray before thy face.
The heavens shall confess Thy wonders, O Lord, and Thy truth in the congregation of the Saints!
VGod is glorified in the council of the Saints!
Communion Hymn
I will receive the cup of salvation and call on the Name of the Lord.
