Titus § 302 (Theophany)

Theophany

Prokeimenon, Tone 8

Their proclamation has gone out into all the earth and their words to the ends of the universe!

Verse: The heavens are telling the Glory of God, and the firmament proclaims His handiwork!

the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us all iniquity, and purify unto Himself His own people, zealous of good works... Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you... Remind them to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no man, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another... But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, Whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Alleluia, Tone 1

The heavens shall confess Thy wonders, O Lord

Verse: God is glorified in the council of the Saints!

Communion Hymn

Their proclamation has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the universe! And also of the Until the Leavetaking.

James 1:1–18 § 50b

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes that are scattered abroad: Greetings. My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away. For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits. Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been proved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

Matthew 3.13-17 § 6 (Theophany)

Theophany

13

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14

But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

ὁ δὲ Ἰωάννης διεκώλυεν αὐτὸν λέγων· ἐγὼ χρείαν ἔχω ὑπὸ σοῦ βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ σὺ ἔρχῃ πρός με;

І҆ѡа́ннъ же возбранѧ́ше є҆мꙋ̀, глаго́лѧ: а҆́зъ тре́бꙋю тобо́ю крⷭ҇ти́тисѧ, и҆ ты́ ли грѧде́ши ко мнѣ̀;

15

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mark 10.11-16 § 44
11

And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

12

And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

13

And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

14

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15

Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

16

And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
