1 Corinthians 1:26–29 § 125ctr (Saturday after Elevation)

Saturday after Elevation

Brethren, you see your calling, that wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to confound the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to confound the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised, God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence...

1 Corinthians 10:23–28 § 146
Prokeimenon, Tone 6

Their souls shall dwell / with the blessed!

Verse: To Thee, O Lord, have I lifted my soul!

Brethren, All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but all things do not edify. Let no man seek his own, but every man the other’s well-being. Eat whatever is sold in the market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” If any of those who do not believe invites you to a feast, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake ... But if any man says unto you, “this was offered in sacrifice unto idols,” do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness...”

Alleluia, Tone 6

Blessed are they whom Thou hast chosen and taken to Thyself, O Lord!

Verse: Their memory is from generation to generation!

Communion Hymn

Blessed are they whom Thou hast chosen and taken to Thyself, O Lord! Their memory is from generation to generation.

John 8.21-30 § 30 (Saturday after Elevation)

Saturday after Elevation

21

Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

22

Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

ἔλεγον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι· μήτι ἀποκτενεῖ ἑαυτόν, ὅτι λέγει, ὅπου ἐγὼ ὑπάγω, ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν;

Глаго́лахꙋ ᲂу҆̀бо і҆ꙋде́є: є҆да̀ сѧ̀ са́мъ ᲂу҆бїе́тъ, ꙗ҆́кѡ гл҃етъ: а҆́може а҆́зъ и҆дꙋ̀, вы̀ не мо́жете прїитѝ;

23

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

24

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

25

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

26

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

27

They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

28

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

30

As he spake these words, many believed on him.

Matthew 24.34-44 § 101
34

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37

But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39

And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40

Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41

Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42

Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43

But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
